The Party's Crashing Us: September 2008
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Wednesday, September 17, 2008. The Shape of Things to Come? Form-fitting, of course. I was all excited to post about "Shape of Things to Come" from the movie "Wild in the Streets" until I read this on the song's wikipedia page:. As of June 2006, the Max Frost and The Troopers version of the song is being used in an advertising campaign by Target Stores. Apparently the shape of things to come will be "comfortable," affordable, and designed by Isaac Mizrahi. The scene featuring "Th...

The Party's Crashing Us: February 2009
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Thursday, February 26, 2009. OJ Da Juiceman's "Culinary Art School". Man, you know you're running out cocaine metaphors when you're stealing ideas from those culinary arts commercials that run on local TV in most cities. Here's the one that runs in Portland:. Got to love the phrase "hospitality professional." That means waiter. OJ has built quite the following, enough to convince Cam'Ron to jump on his "Make Em Say Aye" remix with Gucci Mane. And punch something. As Jim "My J...

The Party's Crashing Us: October 2008
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Tuesday, October 28, 2008. I Actually Like: Deerhunter's Microcastle. Much like Deerhoof, I've tried to get into Deerhunter for a long time. On paper, the band sounds like perfection: signed to Kranky, weird, overbearing vocalist with a host of personal problems (not to sound callous, but this describes at least 75% of my favorite singers), equal parts shoegaze, psych rock, and ambient music. But shit, as they say, just did not add up. Who'd a thunk it? Thursday, October 9, 2008.

The Party's Crashing Us: Let Us Remember: Smog's "Let Me See the Colts"
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2009/04/let-us-remember-smogs-let-me-see-colts.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Let Us Remember: Smog's "Let Me See the Colts". Smog's A River Ain't Too Much to Love. Is generally considered the beginning of Bill Callahan's kinder, gentler period, a period that, with the release of his new album, Sometimes I Wish I Were an Eagle. Appears to have come to an end. But A River. Smog- Let Me See the Colts. Posted by Ridgebrook Drive Distro. Labels: Let Us Remember. Subscribe to: Comment Feed (RSS). Portland, OR, United States. Portlands G...

The Party's Crashing Us: November 2008
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Monday, November 10, 2008. Portland's Got to Be Good for Something: Grouper. It's kind of embarrassing I've never seen Grouper live. She played PDX Pop Now this year on a Sunday afternoon, which, all things considered, is kind of a perfect concert time for a nerd like me. But the prospect of wall to wall people packed into tiny little Rotture just did not seem appealing in the least. Grouper- Cover the Windows and the Walls. Posted by Ridgebrook Drive Distro. The Party's Crashing Us: I Actually Like: Venice Is Sinking
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2009/04/i-actually-like-venice-is-sinking.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Tuesday, April 28, 2009. I Actually Like: Venice Is Sinking. On Thursday, I got an email from the Athens, GA band Venice Is Sinking, informing me of the release of their new album AZAR. Since it was the first email I've ever gotten from a band wanting me to write about them, I felt flattered enough to listen to the album and, lo and behold, I actually liked it. Venice Is Sinking play the sort of orchestral indie rock often termed "slowcore," and true to form, the tempos on AZAR.

The Party's Crashing Us. Monday, June 23, 2008. Ill Try to Just Solve the Reds. Six Reasons Why This is so F'n Funny (No, pointing out why something is funny does not make it less funny, it just pisses off people without analytical minds.):. 1 The "Catch It! Adline from the ESPN commercials. Because you can't advertise sports without a sports metaphor/pun. Also, scary question: what if they don't catch it? 2 Why is Brian Dennehy a) on heroin or b) hanging out Robert Evans? 5 It's not so much the acts des...

The Party's Crashing Us: July 2008
http://partycrashus.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
The Party's Crashing Us. Saturday, July 19, 2008. The Evil That is Turkish Star Wars. To all who watch this, view with caution. While you, the naive, the unitiated, the childishly curious, marvel at how blatantly the filmmakers of "Turkish Star Wars" have ripped off footage from the real Star Wars, remember this: I sat through the whole f'in thing. Turkish Star Wars" is not a movie so bad it's good, it's a movie so bad it will corrode your soul. Posted by Ridgebrook Drive Distro. View my complete profile.
