Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Monday, February 16, 2015. At Kai, the arrow is "Released" (by the archer) towards the target. From the archers standpoint, he watches as the arrow launches towards the mato in somewhat of an arc, landing purposefully into the black and white circle. Thinking back, the launch pad is actually the bow, with the left arm steady and unmoving. The string leaves the mete sharply though and the body tends to keep pretty vertical. Which path should I take?

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Thursday, September 29, 2011. What does it mean to have an opponent in Iaido? When is it just. There definitely isn't anyone there in front of you when you perform the kata. And yet, some sensei can make you believe. That there is someone there and that they are controlling them fully with their spirit. How is this done? Has he created the opponents as is strived for in Iaido? There were 4 attackers in those precise spots, he would likely win the battle?

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Tuesday, January 10, 2012. This is how I hold the sword now. Whenever any force is needed to swing it, I don't squeeze my whole hand, but instead apply pressure to my finger tips only. Using light touches, I direct the tip using the pinky and ring finger which are usually nestled into the diamonds created by the leather wrap. This has increased the efficiency of all my cuts tremendously. Posted by Michael Suen. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tales of a Budo Bum.

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Tuesday, October 2, 2012. The Purpose of Testing. I was reading through the South Carolina Kyudo Journal. Which I recommend that anyone interested in Kyudo should subscribe to, and I came across a post on testing by Aaron Blackwell Sensei. This in turn reminded me of a thought I had at UC Davis for the annual American Kyudo Seminar, which I would like to put down here. In a blog post by Patrick. Why worry about it? Pass the Written Exam. In essence, there w...

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Saturday, November 26, 2011. 1) We still have the individual instructions during taihai to work on, and. 2) We have a common theme for everyone in the class to work on at the same time. The best part though is that our instructors also join in on the taihai practice. In my opinion this is when the dojo becomes a whole. When everyone is just doing Kyudo together and feeding off each others dedication and enjoyment of the art itself. Posted by Michael Suen.

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Thursday, October 27, 2011. Applicants must be members in good standing of the Canadian Kendo Federation. This means that all yearly membership fees must be paid in full in advance of grading. I have heard that technically the number of years between ranks is based on a schedule of 3 classes a week. I couldn't find this on the website though, and from my experience, there are very few individuals who practice this often. I think a good way to see if...You h...

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training: Timing and Rhythm

Tensho 天正 - A Blog on Iaido and Kyudo Training. Tuesday, December 20, 2011. NOTE: From my previous post. You will know I'm not particularly fond of this naming scheme in part because it forces the Iaidoka to compartmentalize each phase of a movement. Jo Ha Kyu is not meant to be created. It is observed because of the natural and efficient movements of a person. A really good video explaining this concept can be found below:. Something interesting to explore in the new year. :).
