Monday, August 17, 2015. We noticed that one of the traditional restaurants on our street had Japanese omelettes on the menu, which Ashlynn had wanted to try, so we went there for dinner. It was very nice inside and the service was fantastic (it did help that our waiter spoke great English, which seems to be a rarity). The concoction was served with seaweed, but no rice. While I would definitely avoid this in the future, it didn't stop us from having a great dining experience. Get Updates by Email.

Monday, August 17, 2015. A Quick Trip to the Eiffel Tower? After we returned from Machida, we decided to take a walk to get a closer view of the Eiffel Tower, I mean Tokyo Tower. Built in 1958, it stands at 1,092 feet tall making it the 2nd highest structure in Japan. By the time we got there, it was closing for the night, but we enjoyed seeing it up close. I especially liked the reflection in the office building across the street. Ashlynn liked the funky walkway down to the entrance of the tower.

Thursday, August 20, 2015. Tokyo's Most Visited Temple Complex. On Sunday, August 9, we took the metro to Asakusa, the heart of Old Tokyo. This beautiful collage was in the subway station. The crowds were intense. This is the Kaminari-mon, Thunder Gate. It's difficult to see the leering gods, one of wind and the other of thunder, on either side. This 13-foot paper lantern is decorated with the character for thunder. Between the gate and the temple is around 100 stalls of chachkes. Get Updates by Email.
