For the rustling of slippers to come down the hall. For the first light to shine on a glimmer of open eyes. To open up to a new day. The floorboards creek under my feet as my tiptoes reach the sleepy corners of the walls. Myself and the house. All are asleep but me. The dog squints one eye and sighs, not bothering to join me yet. Snuggling soft, they wait. For winter to creep. And leave frosty morning dew. Frozen, white and calm. Trails start to appear. From gleeful strolls through nature. And fast flees for food. A cold breeze pushes. Against rosy cheeks and chins. Puffs of breath appear. Of noses and numbing ears. Comfort found in warmth.
