Story Behind My Blog's Name. Wednesday, November 19, 2014. The Shy Librarian's Guide to Presenting. My readership varies. Theres friends, family, librarian colleagues that I know and that I dont know. If youll indulge me this one, Im gonna speak directly to one particular group this time: those of you who have thought about presenting, but thinking about actually doing it is just one big NOPE. And everyone, I have a confession: I used to be really pretty shy. No, really. Im a hustler homie. Last week I w...

Bryce Don't Play: Ask Away #2: Field Trips are an Advocacy Tool
http://brycedontplay.blogspot.com/2015/05/ask-away-2-field-trips-are-advocacy-tool.html
Story Behind My Blog's Name. Thursday, May 07, 2015. Ask Away #2: Field Trips are an Advocacy Tool. So I'm sure I'll talk about it more sometime (yeah, right, just like I'll catch up on my programming posts sometime, right? I'm The Worst), but for now I'll just say I couldn't ask for a better group of colleagues to come together, reflect on current practice, and tackle scenario-based questions for my inaugural go at Iron Fist: The Class. First off, I've been thinking a lot about advocacy lately, due in n...

Souper Spoons: April 2015
http://souperspoons.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
These spoons are made by Davis Limbach, the superhero Hoop Rider, to benefit the Superhero Training Academy. Thursday, April 23, 2015. The first one I completed is made of Alder that I found aging outdoors at Midnight's Farm near where I was living at the time on Lopez Island. The young girl who will receive it is wide-eyed like an owl so i incorporated that animal into the handle. This spoon is about 4 in. long. The star and heart represent love and truth. Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Cherry with a wart.

Bryce Don't Play: The Ill Effects of Puppetry
http://brycedontplay.blogspot.com/2012/06/ill-effects-of-puppetry.html
Story Behind My Blog's Name. Monday, June 04, 2012. The Ill Effects of Puppetry. Step away from the puppet. You don't have to do this. This" could be Summer Library Program school visits in general. The ability of these visits to increase summer involvement. Has been debated around the blogosphere (okay I couldn't find any more but I swear this has been an actual conversation, on listservs as well). If not, or if I'm entirely off-base or inconsiderate, please, PLEASE. Could pull it off. I treat the SLP v...

Bryce Don't Play: After School Book Exploration: A STEM Shared Experience
http://brycedontplay.blogspot.com/2015/04/after-school-book-exploration-stem.html
Story Behind My Blog's Name. Monday, April 13, 2015. After School Book Exploration: A STEM Shared Experience. This weekend I was lucky to attend The Wisconsin After School Association Conference. If you've never been, the WAA Annual Conference is a great place to connect with other community members statewide who work with youth. I learned about epigenetics, which is completely fascinating. That you can adapt to library programming, surely. I also got to present at one of the session times! When we’...

http://brycedontplay.blogspot.com/p/presentations.html
Story Behind My Blog's Name. As you can probably tell from my blog, my favorite things to talk about are: creating and maintaining a welcoming library environment for families, kid-centered programming, school outreach and partnerships, and cognitive development. You'd be surprised, however, at the range of topics I have opinions on that I can back up with research and animated GIFs. Email: brycedontplay at gmail dot com.
