Ruffling a Few Feathers

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Monday, 17 August 2015. They say the question is critical. This term I have had to embark on this based around writing. My head is full of wonderings. I can't say ideas as I feel I don't have anything concrete at all to even justify as an inquiry question. The hurdle started when our advisor for the school asked me a number of question about what I do in class for writing. Everything she was asking me - I already was doing and with success! I started to think I could base my inqu...

http://www.takingthatrisk.blogspot.com/2015/08/week-two-of-effective-communicators.html

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Sunday, 2 August 2015. Week Two of Effective Communicators. Week Two of our Effective Communicators saw the whole school working out another clue. All classes how now received their first puzzle piece and they are desperately trying to work out what it could be. I was extremely impressed with my class this week as they didn’t really need my help at all. I posed questions to them when they were stuck and tis enabled them to solve the clues! This is what we started off with. Miss W...

Ruffling a Few Feathers : July 2015

http://www.takingthatrisk.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Thursday, 23 July 2015. We have officially ‘Launched’ our terms Effective Communicator! This term it is our team’s job to promote one of our new graduate areas. All last year as a school we worked on what we wanted our new dispositions to be called and the steps in which students would achieve them. Where would they start at the beginning of school? Now it is our turn! I am very fortunate that I work with a great team and there were plenty of ideas flowing. Knowing that I am ...

Ruffling a Few Feathers : Male, Female or just an effective teacher?

http://www.takingthatrisk.blogspot.com/2015/02/male-or-female.html

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Monday, 23 February 2015. Male, Female or just an effective teacher? Like some other teachers last night I watched the Sunday programme and the discussion about ‘Boys only classes’. To be honest none of it convinced me at all. What frustrated me straight away is that the class had a male teacher. Why did the school feel that a male teacher compared to a female teacher would be more affective? Typically girls will be keen to learn; boys need a little bit more convincing. I spent y...

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Sunday, 1 February 2015. 28 days of writing. Most people do a Feb Fast and give up something instead I am taking on something? My head space also still has to write about growth mind set and our two days of professional development we had which for the first time I can say was enjoyable and hands down won over 2014’s ones. Ruffling a Few Feathers : Do MLE actually raise the academic achievement of students?

http://www.takingthatrisk.blogspot.com/2015/05/do-mle-actually-raise-academic.html

Ruffling a Few Feathers. Sunday, 24 May 2015. Do MLE actually raise the academic achievement of students? Edchatnz is a great Thursday night twitter conversation that is fast paced and really gets you thinking. Last week’s conversation was no different - MLE Modern Learning Environments. I began to question what was really changing. Had we misinterpreted what MLE were supposed to be? Should we have never introduced the ‘bean bag’ catch phrase? Is ‘modern’ the best word to use at all? I made a hard decisi...

Class dojo – class communication! In an attempt to have a strong behaviour management system set up from the first day of. School I decided to investigate Class Dojo. I few of my colleagues had used it last year and shared their experiences with me to give me a starting point. One of things with initially drew me to Class Dojo was the bright, colourful. I love that parents can engage with this tool and discuss their childs’ behaviour with them in a ‘real time’ way. It doesn’t ...In Room 8 we work in indi...

Beginning of a journey. 8220;But when I walk into a new class, it is as if I am starting over”. 8211; Parker Palmer, The Courage to Teach, 2007. Good teaching is not simply skill or technique it comes from the integrity and identity of the teacher. Therefore, I threw out my picture perfect puzzle piece teacher ideology, and went back to my roots. Who am I? What do I believe in? How do I want my students to see me? Currently living in Hamilton. Passionate about the arts – in and out of education. A remind...

Google sites for PRT tracking | Mrs Hallahan

https://kelseyhallahanblog.wordpress.com/2016/02/15/google-sites-for-prt-tracking

Google sites for PRT tracking. I have recently undertaken the somewhat daunting task of setting up a google site to track my PTC progress towards full teacher registration. I decided to investigate this pathway as I considered the purpose of having a physical folder in a digital age. An online profile makes more sense for me as a teacher and a learner, particularly a platform which talks so readily to the online tools I already use such as Google Drive. UPDATE: I am now planning on sharing this learning ...

How important is that? With a river of tasks and things to attend to constantly flowing at me as a teacher I am beginning to wonder how I can prioritize the more important things. Questions to consider in the future before undertaking a task or deciding upon the time allocated to a task:. Use of my time? 8211; Mrs H. Mantle o...

I spent five wonderful years under her tutor ledge in the area of dramatic arts and found the relationship to be thoroughly rewarding and beneficial. Mrs Bell had a presence about her, a sort of motherly nurturing spirit of encouragement and support, much like. For all students in all subjects the teacher can make a difference to their engagement, motivation and ultimately achievement. 8211; Mrs H. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Taking the Beard Out of Beer

Taking the Beard Out of Beer. Tuesday, 4 October 2011. My blog has been dequarantined by Google, thank god, and I've got a lot to catch up on, not least my adventures in the US at the ever-awesome GABF, on which I'll be doing a separate post in the next few days. But this evening I felt I had to share a recipe that I have seriously enjoyed eating this evening and was super-tasty despite being really pretty darn healthy! Serves 4 (with quite a good bit of bulgur wheat and veg left over for salads). 1tbsp ...
