Texana Tales

Thursday, July 9, 2009. Sounds great if you are in Jamacia or Cayman Island and dancing on the beach to the "Hot Hot Hot' Jamacian music, but in South Texas it's a different story. The yards are burning up from the heat and lack of rain. Most yards are shades of brown with a few little round spots of light green. Under foot is crispy dried grass and cracks to watch out for. In my little part of the world, where the normal rainfall is 30 inches per year, we have had about 6 inches in the past 12 months.

Texana Tales: February 2009

Sunday, February 8, 2009. A Master Gardener Trainee. I am a Master Gardener Trainee.a title I really don't like! Really now, trainee? I guess it's because the word "trainee" holds a sort of less than knowledgeable connotation. And if I am trainee and "don't know 'nuthin" then is it the same for all the others? I don't think that is the case. I know for me, it's not. Here is what I DO know:. Flicking bugs does wonders for stress. Flicking them against a brick wall is even better. I am inherently cheap&#46...

Texana Tales: August 2008

http://talesfromtexana.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 18, 2008. The Field Trip to Fort Bend County Demonstration Gardens turned out to be a really good trip! They have a LOT of different and unusual plants. Also a big sign that said to please not pick flowers, nor fruit, nor seeds from the plants. Bummer. We also went to Caldwell Nursery, (right down the road- how could we miss it? You could ...

While we were down town at the market, we decided to take a walk around the historic buildings. On our way home, we stopped to take photo’s of this old windmill and pump. I have no way of dating this particular pump, but it does remind me of days gone by, when ranching was a way of life along the Chisholm Trail. Bull; No Comment. August 24th, 2013.

Sunday, August 31, 2014. Arriving in Sri Lanka and Catching a Wave in Arugam Bay. Sri Lanka is a country with so many delicious foods! For me it started with incredible food on our Sri Lankan Airlines flight: cashew nut upma, chana dhal masala, and broccoli tikki- -yum! Plus, the ceylon tea was so good I didn't need sugar or cream! In Arugam Bay we had rice and fish curry at The Food Hut. The humble space housed incredible flavors! Rambutan and durian are in the height of their seasons. I spotted man...

Tales from Thailand

Tuesday, November 28, 2006. On November 18th the TA’s and teachers of our school had a good lunch at a restaurant in town. It was timed nicely so that I could eat before setting out to the airport and Thailand so I thought! I have never had to wait so long to get food. An hour after ordering, I hadn’t even been given my drink. They were bringing one dish every 5 minutes for 40 people half of whom had ordered yesterday! Why is it that people in airport security always make you feel guilty! It’s funny: I’v...
