Walls and weather | Tangled Roots
https://tangledroots.wordpress.com/2009/05/15/construction-for-beginners
A California girl attempts to survive and thrive in New England. May 15, 2009. It’s easier to work in the rain than in the wind. Even when it’s sunny, wind takes so much effort to work against. Black birch trees blowin in the wind. The only other rock wall I’ve ever helped build was in Mexico, held together Mexican-style with several wheelbarrows full of cement:. This time I’m doing it New England style, with no mortar, mud or natural adhesive of any kind:. Ill take a closer picture next time. You are co...

https://tangledroots.wordpress.com/2009/05/06/produce
A California girl attempts to survive and thrive in New England. May 6, 2009. Produce in my sink. And now I work at a grocery store. I actually do get to do those things, but it’s not quite as glamorous as it seemed in my imagination. Mostly, I handle boxes. I recieve boxes, I move boxes, I unload boxes and then I break down boxes. Everything about the job is so different from the work I’m used to doing really, the only common denominator is food. At the Hippie Market, I know exactly when I’ll go h...

A California girl attempts to survive and thrive in New England. April 29, 2009. I’m three weeks into my internship at the medicinal herb farm. We meet twice each week, one day for eight hours of farm labor (see earlier post. On barn-mucking) and one afternoon for four hours of clinical learning, where we’re taught the basics of how to make medicines from the plants we grow. Bill digs valerian root for todays tincture. A California girl attempts to survive and thrive in New England. Dandelion fritters and wild lettuce. May 11, 2009. This goldenseal wont be in flower next week. The farm gets more and more beautiful every time I go back. Last Thursday was misty and damp and the greenest day I can remember in a long, long time. Filed in farm time. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. When good vegetables go bad | Tangled Roots
https://tangledroots.wordpress.com/2009/05/22/when-vegetables-go-bad
A California girl attempts to survive and thrive in New England. When good vegetables go bad. May 22, 2009. A productive morning in the organic case. Its even crazier to me to pull perfectly fine vegetables just because they have a slight imperfection or two. Any kind of wrinkling on a bell pepper or minor abrasion on a zucchini and the vegetable ceases to be worth eating in the eyes of the consumer. To be fair, though, I guess it just ceases to be worth. Filed in glorious grossness. You are commenting u...

Times, They Are a'Changin'. Well, everyone, the time has come for me to close down Afterthoughts. As my job changes, my reading habits change, and I find I can no longer sustain a children's book review blog, an adult book review blog, and the blog I ran mostly for myself where I collected font-, vocabulary-, and typography-related items. Introducing, Wildly Read. My new blog based on the concept that I'm wildly, if not exactly widely, read. This is officially the last post I'll make on this blog. The Ki...

This was my first foray into the brilliant David Levithan/Rachel Cohn author combo. Yes, I admit it, I never picked up Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist. 9780375835339) or Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List. 9780375844416). Clearly now I'll have to, because I unabashedly LOVED Dash and Lily. I've left some clues for you. Dash follows...

A Children's Book Almanac. Drop everything, hop online, and check out this new project by Anita Silvey. A Children's Book Almanac. Both an online resource and later (next spring) to become a book, this project is perfect for your daily dose of children's lit information. Anita Silvey - former publisher for Houghton Mifflin. Third in the HMH Book of the Day series is. Out of the Egg. 9780618737413, $12.95. I don't know if the title is a play on the phrase "out of the mouths of babes," but that's what I always think of when I relate the title to this book, for out of the egg came a little chick and out of her mouth comes true friendship. Book B is obvio...

For the first time, my professional life isn't directly linked to my personal interests, my academic pursuits, or my reading/blogging passions. Eek! Identity crisis in the works! Not that I have anything to complain about, really. At Beacon, everyone has been incredibly nice and welcoming. I've joined twice-weekly lunchtime yoga and a once-a-week lunchtime knitting group. What's not to love about that? Posted by Broche Fabian. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Font of the Day.

Little did I know, when I started compiling a family tree, that it would be the beginning of a new hobby. I also discovered that I didn't know much about my ancestors. and so the journey began. I found new cousins, discovered ancestors I didn't know about and even found a long ago grandmother. That was accused of witchcraft. While you are exploring our Tangled Roots I hope you find something you are searching for and learn something new about your heritage. A big Thank You. Latest updates and corrections.
