Sleeping" with one rock jutting into my back and one against my hip, waking up in fits gasping for oxygen in the thin, crisp air, and loving every second of it. This is the way of the high mountain lake. We set out on the pure vertical, scree riddled hike up to the continental divide. The destination rests delicately along the sinuous ridge of the divide and harbors a population of cutthroat trout who are used to seeing, and avoiding, the human visitors.

Wednesday, April 8, 2009. The last two Sundays I ventured to South Park. The first trip ocurred two days after Spinney opened for the season. Jason and I waited for the blizzard to calm down and then made our way up. We had action right off the bat. Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Lake fishing - Callibaetis in Session. I left work Friday afternoon, grabbed my 4 duffle bags. Packed gear and headed into the mountains. During my drive I pulled over to snap a quick photo of a moose on the side of the road. The moose took off running. I initially thought that I had scared it. and then a group of horses emerged from the trees that had been rushing the moose. I approached the camp site Friday evening at 9:30 pm bouncing and maneuvering along the trail in my F-150.

On my second and third day, as I began to settle into Isla Holbox, I felt as if my life was catching up with the speed of the place. I was enjoying night after night of the most amazing sunsets I have ever witnessed. The world I knew in Denver was gone, at least for a little while. Seeing this during what was already a spectacular sunset almost took me to my knees in tears. Pure Beauty. A very friendly Flamingo.

Multiple slabs in a variety of shapes, colors and species violently attacked my flies. BIG Rainbows, a Cut-Bow, and a Snake River Cutty were landed on this epic day. The fish were not dreaming today.
