http://madaboutinteriors.blogspot.com/2015_09_01_archive.html
Share my madness about interiors, my passion for historic images, designs, pelmets, valances, beds and curtains, swags and tails and all those wonderful things that today's taste has sadly forgotten about. Friday, 18 September 2015. One of my all time favourite rooms is the drawing room at Hambleden Manor. If you missed my raving about it (and my sadness about its recent demise) read about it here. I'm glad I have a reason to use this image again: it shows the subject of this post. the chandelier. Howeve...

Mad about Interiors: December 2013

Share my madness about interiors, my passion for historic images, designs, pelmets, valances, beds and curtains, swags and tails and all those wonderful things that today's taste has sadly forgotten about. Tuesday, 17 December 2013. Hotel style' . or is it. Although it has been a while, today only a quick post, as my books are still packed away and I've got 3 boxes of Christmas decorations to empty. Runs in front of the curtain track, thus forming a kind of pelmet box. Last week I visited the Rijksmuseum...

http://aconnoisseursquest.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-little-known-important-french-royal.html
Monday, August 13, 2012. A LITTLE KNOWN IMPORTANT FRENCH ROYAL GIFT INTENDED FOR GEORGE WASHINGTON FROM LOUIS XVI AT NEW YORK CITY'S METROPOLITAN MUSEUM. This is the ill fated King of France as he appeared on the eve of the French Revolution in a portrait I took recently during a visit to the Revolutionary Galleries at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris. Below is the familiar Gilbert Stuart portrait in the White House. Regrettably, it was a challenge President Washington did not have to confront. The even...

A Connoisseur's Quest: October 2011

Thursday, October 27, 2011. 18th Century Folies from the 1960's at Chateau de Groussay. However in the 1960's, one of the 20th Century's most admired and eccentric taste makers, the Hispano Mexican bon vivant Charles de Beistegui, spent the last 10 years of his life, in the wake of a stroke, embellishing his much admired Chateau de Groussay near Versailles with a population of absolutely magical follies to evoke the douceur de vivre. Of the 18th Century as it has seldom been evoked - even in Hollywood!

8220;Style anthropology can explicate a lot of otherwise tricky issues, in some cultures probably more than others. Sort of Like Water For Chocolate, only Weejuns.” LPC. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. I don’t have an elegant Southern accent.few people do anymore and to me there’s no middle ground…Southern accent-wise. It’s either elegant or off putting and please; rarely do actors do. Southern accents very well. Here’s Foote. Sharing stories about his friend Faulkner. Onward. In Philly. I too loved him in the...

A Connoisseur's Quest: July 2012

Monday, July 23, 2012. A Peek at the Usually Hard to See House by The Gustavian Designer Masreliez in Gamla Stan, Stockholm. This is a portrait of Louis Masreliez below. The Swedish Gustavian Style is often noted for its attenuated (some say a bit glacial) treatment of Pompeian inspired decoration. It's not as animated as the decor one sees in France in the 1780's and 1790's. But it's still quite beautifully quietly refined and very chic! Sunday, July 22, 2012. It would seem he also took his duties as an...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: September 2014
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Sunday, 7 September 2014. Victorian Iron Lace and a Little Porch. I haven't made a post in a very long time! This is mainly due to how busy I have been. Finally though, I have had some time to continue work on the half scale house. This week I finished off the porch and added some iron lace to cap the tower and the bay windows. I added supports to create a gently sloping porch roof. I then finished off the porch supports and glued them in place. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
