Pack Peddler's Place: All we are saying… is give peace a chance
http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/p/all-we-are-saying-is-give-peace-chance.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. All we are saying… is give peace a chance. The late 1960’s were a turbulent time in the United States. Living in the suburbs of Chicago was an experience in American politics up close. With the peace movement in full motion and the 1968 Democratic Convention splashed all over the news everyone had an opinion; especially me. Why did grandpa leave Finland? A quick lesson in Russian History. My favorite site online for a quick ...

http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Friday, March 18, 2011. Redecorating, Reconnecting and Sunday Dinners. It has been a busy month! We have been busy helping Clayton get settled into his new house. There was a lot of cleaning and painting but in the end it turned out great. He is settled in, working on his yard and getting Tori's room in order. His and Her offices? One office and one guest room? So many choices and thank goodness no rush to decide. Over the y...

The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Saturday, December 25, 2010. My Secret Holiday Addiction. Cheesy Christmas movies, is there anything better? Every year I search through the bins of Walmart, Sam's and Best Buy to see if there is some black and white Christmas movie I have never seen. I do searches on Amazon for Christmas movies I have to see if a recommendation will come up for a movie I do not have, and I am never disappointed. I could try to find some pro...

The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Tuesday, February 22, 2011. A New House, Family Memories and Our Home on Pine Street. This week we have been busy getting Clayton's new house ready. Painting, flooring and setting up a kitchen for someone who at best can make Kraft Macaroni and Cheese have kept me busy. Our Home on Pine Street. While we were prepping Clayton's house for painting I started remembering all the pictures of my parents moving into the house on Pi...

Pack Peddler's Place: Belle's New Home, The Mysterious Nancy and Uncle Newt
http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/2011/04/belles-new-home-mysterious-nancy-and.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Wednesday, April 6, 2011. Belle's New Home, The Mysterious Nancy and Uncle Newt. Sunday we brought Belle, Clayton's Mastiff, to his new home. Belle was quite excited as we gathered up her bed, toys and food by the front door. She enjoyed the car ride and was well behaved during the hour drive to her new home. Chuck and I empty nesters again - if an empty nest includes 2 dogs and a cat! I'll keep you posted. I called the hosp...

Pack Peddler's Place: Ground Hog Day - Steigerwald Style
http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/p/ground-hog-day-steigerwald-style.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Ground Hog Day - Steigerwald Style. After I entered a portion of the Riegar Family Tree, I talked to Grandma Mary at length about her life and family. Since the family lived in Illinois, it would be easy to include them in research I was doing on my father's family. I knew that Grandma’s parents had come to the United States and she was part of the first generation born here, but I never knew the details. From talking to oth...

Pack Peddler's Place: A Box of Old Pictures, Chicago Dogs and Evergreen Cemetery

The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Wednesday, May 25, 2011. A Box of Old Pictures, Chicago Dogs and Evergreen Cemetery. A Research Trip Home. Last week I made a trip home to Illinois. While my ancestors came from the northwest suburb of Barrington, I grew up in the neighboring town of Fox River Grove. There were about 80 pictures we had not seen or scanned before so Mary scanned them as TIFFS and then I cut and saved another set as JPEGS. To give me the energ...

Pack Peddler's Place: Family Vacations - 1950s vs 2011
http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/2011/07/family-vacations-1950s-vs-2011.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. Thursday, July 28, 2011. Family Vacations - 1950s vs 2011. When I was a young girl summers were spent visiting my grandfather in Beacon Hill, Michigan. My mother and I would take the train and spend two weeks at my grandfather's house. Once she had a driver's license she and her sister Bunnie would load us kids in the car and drive. It was like being in another world. This year my sister and I visited the Hoosier Grove Museum.

Pack Peddler's Place: The Schwemm Family - Connecting the Dots
http://packpeddler.blogspot.com/p/schwemm-family-connecting-dots.html
The musings of a part time genealogist and full time collector of family trivia. The Schwemm Family - Connecting the Dots. The East Coast Schwemms - These Schwemms had used Von Schwemm, and did not seem to be related. The Chicago Schwemms - I could find no link to this group based on conversations with my family. The Iowa Schwemms - This group had very similar family names and emigrated from Sterbitz Germany, but again no one in my family knew of any relation. And what about those Schwemms in Chicago?
