http://bewitchedbystitch.blogspot.com/2012/04/chapter-8-complex-samples-5-and-6.html
Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Tuesday, 17 April 2012. Chapter 8 Complex Samples 5 and 6. The inspiration behind this piece was the furled petal shape of a flower on the initial photographic collage of star shapes. I padded the centre and then bonded it to the finished. I enjoyed using a new set of 'dabber' type. Tiny stamps to overprint my hand dyed. Stitch. The centre shape is padded and I've discovered some fabrics lend themselves more easily to this technique. Simple te...

Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Tuesday, 17 May 2011. Chapter 6 Applique squares - notes. Technically, I didn't have any difficulties with this exercise as I was familiar with the methods. I viewed it as an opportunity to experiment. With colours and fabrics. My favourites were squares (4) and (6) as I felt the different elements of colour, shape and texture combined best. Finally, I am pleased to say that I was disciplined enough with the. Glue on the ironing! It all togeth...

Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Wednesday, 16 May 2012. Composite Sheet Module 1 Stars. Looking through my portfolio of work, the recurring motif that emerged was the 'estoile' or curved ray star. The star with three rays- a relatively simple shape- lent itself to numerous variations in the cut and fold exercises. By orientating it differently or changing the way the paper was folded, I could produce infinite derivative. Monday, 14 May 2012. Inlay Applique Chapter 10. I deci...

http://bewitchedbystitch.blogspot.com/2012/05/inlay-applique-chapter-10_14.html
Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Monday, 14 May 2012. Inlay Applique Chapter 10. I started with 4, 71/2cm squares of felt which I decorated by bonding threads, fibres, braids and ribbon. I then drew my design and cut out the pieces to use as a pattern. I wanted to use a shape with curves but this made the use of wider insertion stitches impossible. I used a large cross stitch and a fine perle cotton to reattatch the outer layer. Second. The outer edge of each new shape was ou...

Travels through the magical world of fabric, thread and fibre. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. I have to be honest and say that the novelty of cutting out paper shapes was fading when I embarked on Design Sheet C - but it is amazing what a new bottle of pearlescent lime green ink can offer by way of motivation! In my notebook I have written a large reminder for next time - spray inside a large shoe box lined with kitchen roll. Monday, 24 January 2011. My tiny scissors so I used artistic licence. Because it was ...
