The Baseball Gods

This blog is dedicated to all things baseball. If it ain't baseball, it ain't here. Thursday, March 19, 2009. Best of the Best - First Base. Man, this was tough. Getting down to the best first baseman in the game was actually pretty easy but getting this list down to five finalists was BRUTAL. There are so many good first basemen in the game today that I had a really tough time getting from 10 down to a list of 5. None, however, were good enough for my Top 5. Next off the list was Ryan Howard. Great ...

The Baseball Gods: USA, USA, USA!

http://thebaseballgods.blogspot.com/2009/03/usa-usa-usa.html

This blog is dedicated to all things baseball. If it ain't baseball, it ain't here. Wednesday, March 18, 2009. USA, USA, USA! Wow, what a comeback win by the good ol' U.S. of A last night in Miami. You would have thought those guys won the World Series - better yet the Little League World Series - the way they dogpiled after David Wright's game winning hit. That was pretty cool. Who says the American players don't care about the World Baseball Classic? Those boys sure looked like they cared last night.

This blog is dedicated to all things baseball. If it ain't baseball, it ain't here. Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Best of the Best - Catchers. Who is the best player in baseball at each position? Tough question, no doubt, but it's something I've been kicking around with some friends and it made for some great debate. Okay, it led to some arguments, but it was fun. In other words, these guys need to do things other players at their position can't do. Today it's the catchers:. Martin was the first to come off t...

The Baseball Gods: December 2008

http://thebaseballgods.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

This blog is dedicated to all things baseball. If it ain't baseball, it ain't here. Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Thinking Out Loud (12/31/08). Angels sign Fuentes to replace K-Rod. Nice signing by the Halos. Fuentes is an underrated reliever who has somehow gotten the bogus rap of a guy who "lost his closer's job" back in '07 during the Rockies' run to the playoffs. That's not exactly how it played out. Here’s the breakdown on his 2007 season:. From June 22 - July 3 Fuentes gave up 10 ER in 4.3 IP.

The Baseball Gods: Mailbag - How are the Cubs better than the Cards

This blog is dedicated to all things baseball. If it ain't baseball, it ain't here. Thursday, March 12, 2009. Mailbag - How are the Cubs better than the Cards. That's the question posed to me by "anonymous" (aren't anonymous posts the greatest! Rather than re-state the question, here it is:. How exactly are the Cubs better than the Cardinals? I'm awfully tired of seeing people write that and hearing people say it. It's BS! Let's do a comparison. I don't have time to do every play, but.". Even if Skip win...

Obviously, You're Not a Golfer. Ball in general, life on the road… on this blog, either you do or you don't. Spring Training, Day 13: Taco. In. A. Helmet. Anyway, to the baseball. Today was another episode in the ongoing strange saga of Johan Santana, and I’d be lying if I said to you that I understand what exactly is going on. He’s going to pitch in a game, at some point. But when? Not clear. Whether that will be enough for him to be ready for the first turn through the rotation? But it all works so muc...

I already laid out my division/wild card/pennant winner picks for MLB.com, as did several of my colleagues. You can check those out here. But I try to go into a little more depth here at the blog, so once again I’m giving more extensive picks in this space. Here are last year’s preseason predictions. I saw it noted on Twitter this afternoon that today is the 10th anniversary of one of the more memorable games I covered during my years on the beat. On June 13, 2003, Roger Clemens joined two very elite clubs. By recording his 300th win and 4000th strikeout in the big leagues. Did you really not know? The response from the man who’d never played in the Bronx before was perfect: “They ...Pingback:...

This afternoon, I hit my seventh ballpark in seven days, finishing up a week of barnstorming all over Florida. In my new role as full-time editor and sometimes reporter/columnist/analyst, my work was more about meeting people, talking to people, checking in on what’s going on, and less about writing Spring Training features. Obviously, You're Not a Golfer. Ball in general, life on the road… on this blog, either you do or you don't. Spring Training, Day 17: Back home again on Planet Jupiter. Kris Medlen pitched quite well before coming out of the game in the fifth. He was hit in the arm by a batted ball, and while it doesn’t seem to be serious at all, it would have been silly to push him. But I mean, he could be an off-the-field star, somewhat akin to how R.A.
