Posted by Victoria Briggs. June 26, 2016. Britain has just voted to come out of Europe and these are difficult days right now. From my corner of north London, the country has never felt so divided or looked so out of step. Where the next weeks and months take us in this post-Brexit world is anyone’s guess. For now, the consolations of literature, of music of art are proving as reliable as they have always been. This week, a poem I wrote called. Was published by Hand Job Zine. Posted by Victoria Briggs. June 8, 2016. Salman Rushdie, keen proponent of the lost art of learning poetry by rote, would have loved my school. It was an all-girls Catholic school and the ability to memorise texts by heart was a big plus among the nuns there. Once you could quote vast swathes of St Mark’s gospel verbatim, then poems, in comparison, were a doddle. The Road not Taken. The Witch of Coos. Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. Summer’s end | mother puss bucket
https://motherpussbucket.wordpress.com/2016/09/12/summers-end
Posted by Victoria Briggs. September 12, 2016. My favourite time of year is summer. I have friends who would prefer their seasons to always be autumnal, the air crisp, with that feeling that comes from hunkering down in front of fires or beneath blankets with those you love the most. I like those things too, but summer’s light nights and heady scents, the feeling of warm air on bare skin, are no match for the autumn, no matter how pretty its displays. Tilting on the Bluest Axis.
