Apparently the iconic store described as the 'Chanel of Sweets' will be opening this week. I’ve been on holiday. Then I returned to the riots. I live near Tottenham and Wood Green, so I saw the initial violence and looting (you can see some pics I took early that Sunday morning here. Scroll back for more). I have since avoided pontificating on the whys and wherefores of it all, not least because the internet has been full of opinion on that score (for my money, this piece by Will Davies is the most acute analysis. Two nights ago, I was rung up by a journalist on The Times and asked to comment.
