Broken Shivers

Monday, March 12, 2007. One of Carolyn's former school friends, a delightful young woman, visited us this week for dinner. One of the things we discussed was letting our 'conscience' be our guide. She maintains she does not need to pray, go to church, etc., that she knows right from wrong and follows her conscience. Some peoples' consciences are even over developed; they see 'sin' or wrong or guilt in everything they do. Not such a good guide that way, either. Posted by Johnny at 6:19 PM. Thanks for you,...

Broken Shivers: November 2005

http://www.thebrokenshivers.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 26, 2005. The root of all evil. There is so much here to write sermons about. The love of money being the root of all evil is one. The power of wealth and what it would do helped end their marriage. Money bought drugs. Money certainly didn't buy happiness for either of them. How many times have we thought we'd like to win the lottery? Maybe we should be careful what we wish for, as the old saying goes. Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.". In Matthe...

Broken Shivers: October 2005

http://www.thebrokenshivers.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 30, 2005. But can you prove it? Rarely does a day go by that some nonbeliever doesn't tell me that I can't 'prove' that God exists or that I am 'saved,' etc. My answer is 'no, I cannot, no more than you can prove he doesn't exist or that I'm not saved.'. I know what I know. I know what happened to me. I know what's inside me and why I believe as I do. Most importantly, I 'know whom I have believed.' How do I know? By the eye of faith. How do we know anything? Galations 2:20 "I am crucifie...

I'm ashamed I don't get here more often for I get a blessing or more every day of my life. Here it is, not quite 5 am Everyone is asleep except me and Juleane. She is one year old. Is there anything any sweeter than a year old baby girl? Thanks for you, too, Tammy, for having a place to say good morning and thank you Lord! You say: "I'm a...

Broken Shivers: Holy banana!

http://www.thebrokenshivers.blogspot.com/2007/02/holy-banana.html

Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Before we get onto anything serious, let me show you the dog that won in the Westminster dog show - the 'working dog,' Springer Spaniel. Charles was so happy, being the proud owner of three such dogs. It is a gorgeous dog although I'm more into Labs, and my wife likes 'lap' dogs. We really enjoyed the show, though. When President Bush says 'stay the course' or 'we shall prevail' when all the odds are against him, what kind of thinking is he doing? Posted by Johnny at 3:07 PM.

Nothing Normal: Yikes! School's almost out!!!

http://saylorgirl.blogspot.com/2005/05/yikes-schools-almost-out.html

Thursday, May 12, 2005. Oh, my goodness! There is (counting today) only five more days of school left. I am so ill-prepared for summer vacation! Lol EVERY year I say "This year will be different" . and then, every year is essentially the same. lol. That's what I like. It is harder with the older boys, but they do love to skateboard. I'm glad for that, because it gets them some great exercise! Has anybody ever tried to skateboard? I'm sure, as always, that the summer will FLY by! It goes just too fast!

Wednesday, April 27, 2005. In honor of Tim. Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Age 38. Tim was the brother of a dear friend of mine from Nashville. When I moved to Tennessee, it was without knowing a soul. I was alone. (I can't imagine what I was thinking! Smile Beverly and her family took me in, and I became part of their family. Her brother, Tim, became like my little brother. Tim was quirky.but so much fun! Posted by Melody @ 8:52 AM. View my complete profile. Its a NEW year! Happy day - happy year!

Nothing Normal: January 2005

http://saylorgirl.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 25, 2005. I'm nervous today. It is going to be an unusual day. I have to take my son to counseling. He wrote some "disturbing" poetry at school. Bummer. Did he really even know what he was doing? I have no idea. I don't think so. I'm thankful that God is in control. I have to believe that to keep my sanity. I would be a real mess if I didn't believe God was in control! Posted by Melody @ 8:53 AM. What can I say? What can I say? So, what gives? Why would he do that? Its a NEW year!

Wednesday, July 27, 2005. Wednesday, July 27, 2005. Wow You just never know what you can handle with the help of the Lord until you are tested. I guess this is the summer of testing for us. I guess today, I'm feeling like being "real". I just need to vent. We go see him tonight. We are nervous. Does he blame us? Is he just BSing his way through treatment? Will we ever have to go through this again? Oh, Lord, I hope not. He HAD. SHE (mom) DROVE HIM HOME! My energies now must be with my son. We must do...

That is the bottom line. He has been taught better! And they assured me that they did. I grabbed my stuff, called 911 and ran down t...

Thursday, June 01, 2006. Thursday, June 1, 2006. Well, school is finally out - for the summer! The boys and I are enjoying the time off from the "regular schedule". Gary and I have established a new "rule" for this summer - no computers on (we have four of them! Until after I get home from the afternoon newspaper route! I have to tell you, it has been the most peaceful summer so far! In April (my first meeting to chair), we had 36 ladies there and EIGHT gave their hearts to the Lord! How exciting is that!

The Broken Servant | "The journey from teaching about love to allowing myself to be loved proved much longer than I realized." – Henri Nouwen

The journey from teaching about love to allowing myself to be loved proved much longer than I realized. – Henri Nouwen. Being Thankful Even When It Hurts. November 27, 2014. Thanksgiving and Christmas are coming. Each holiday comes with its own traditions that vary from family to family, but this year is going to look very different to me and my family. So even though being thankful might hurt this year, I will strive to honor the words of Paul as he writes. September 18, 2014. However, the day came when...
