A Blog about Learning, Teaching, Writing, and Reading. Mornings: When a Slice Doesn’t Work #sol15. July 28, 2015. I keep telling myself this is a lighter story than most of my parenting stories. There’s no fight in my son in the mornings. He’s open, vulnerable, trusting, oh so sweet. In the mornings, he’s my baby. It’s still a story about fear, because that’s why he wants me here. He wakes up afraid that I’m gone, that he’s alone, and he can’t go back to sleep until he knows I’m here. And there is anothe...

A Blog about Learning, Teaching, Writing, and Reading. Author Archives: Elisabeth Ellington. 6 Things You Should Know About Me as a Writer: Slice of Life. I’m percolating, not procrastinating. Yes, I have a paper due, and no, I’m not writing it. Instead, I’m watching TV, going for a walk, washing dishes, cleaning my ears. Anything except writing. I used to call it procrastination and feel bad about myself, but now I know this behavior for what it is: percolation an essential…. 6 hours ago August 23, 2016.

It's the little things…. November 23, 2015. Okay, last week I was just in a random reading mood- I did not read for four hours in dedication to the Children’s Literary Awards, but I did read A LOT. Believe it or not a lot of the picture books I picked from the shelves last week featured cats… weird (not). So, I decided I would pick a few of my favorites to share today! This book by Karla Kuskin disappointed me, but only because the Upstairs Cat and the Downstairs Cat never became friends! And my favorite...
Finding reward in the hard work of revision – Reflection Wall

What's going on in this Wall's head about what's happening within the four walls of her high school English classroom. Finding reward in the hard work of revision. August 21, 2016. I’ve been thinking a lot about writing lately. Particularly revisions. While I’ve been thinking about this, one moment from when I was writing my dissertation and turning in draft after draft keeps coming to mind. The hard work, though, is the rewarding work. While my own experience made me more compassionate, it also made me ...

Literacy thoughts and discoveries in education, technology and the daily life as a third grade teacher. Sunday, January 8, 2012. I have worries that have been causing me to lose sleep at night. I am a parent of 4 children, ages 16 to 22. Need I say more? I know that worry is in the mind. Worry is fear of something that may happen in the future. It robs us of the present. Native Americans must have known this long ago, as. Native Americans were known to keep stones in sacred bundles, and the stones were b...

https://learningloveandliterature.wordpress.com/2015/03/05/on-long-drives-sol15
Learning, Love, and Literature. On Long Drives #SOL15. March 5, 2015. With a family who lives five hours east and a best friend who’s seven hours south, it’s lucky I love long drives so much. Tomorrow is my mom’s birthday, so today I head to Cincinnati. I’ve packed lots of sweatshirts and jeans, wool socks and scarves. There’s an apple and some peanuts next to my water bottle on the kitchen table downstairs. And I’ve downloaded Michael Pollan’s. In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. Liked by 1 person.
