Maybe I'm eclectic, or maybe it's just a short attention span. Saturday, July 30, 2005. If you lo-o-o-ved me half as much as I love you. Maybe I'm eclectic, or maybe it's just a short attention span. Saturday, October 29, 2005. The Ghost of Halloween Past. When the children in my rural neighborhood would don white sheets, witch hats and fairy wings, I always watched out the window with some envy, and some fear. "Halloween" was forbidden, and the scarier for it. These few kids were my friends, and I was filled with terror for them as I watched them "invite evil" into their lives by participating in the pagan celebration. Except the one year.

Maybe I'm eclectic, or maybe it's just a short attention span. Tuesday, February 28, 2006. A dream, extinguished. Betrayal is not an easy experience. Which is worse: the betrayal itself, or the knowledge that your initial evaluation of the betrayer could have been so dismally off-the-mark? Though not of your sole making, betrayal has the effect of causing you to doubt yourself and your judgment, to second-guess your intuition. Simply because it's the right thing to do. The right thing to do. But I will t...

Maybe I'm eclectic, or maybe it's just a short attention span. Thursday, December 29, 2005. What is it about "new" that invigorates and excites us? New love, new job, new baby, new home. Hallmark makes a fortune on cards commemorating "new" events. Why are we so addicted to beginning or acquiring something "new", rather than continuing or maintaining something already begun or acquired? Opportunity to fulfill our perceived potential. We all believe we're capable of better than we've proved so far. A bonu...

This was a very big deal, for several reasons: 1). I am the youngest of four children and the others never attended kindergarten at all; 2). When they did go to first grade, they were 7; 3). The first grade they attended was at a small, conservative parochial school; and 4). I was permitted to ride the bus. I was able to track her down only once af...
