A Bit of History. When Nancy was in high school in the 1950s, her mother advised her to never wash her face with soap and water which would dry her skin and leave a soap residue. Nancy started using a cleansing cream and wiped it off with a paper tissue made of wood fiber and abrasive to the skin. Then she started using an 11 x 11 inch cloth that she cut with scissors and hemmed. Nancy gave the cloths to her friends because she wanted to share this concept with women everywhere.
