September 26, 2010. The Horrid Disadvantage of a Scientific Major. I can do patterns, too. I am, after all, avidly pursuing the understanding of both math and music, and I think grammar is cool. But getting into the deeper structure of a work, understanding the mind of the author, finding the purpose behind the plot - these are habits I have never formed. Was a correspondence course that I took for about two or three months, during which time I wrote almost exclusively on The Call of the Wild. To learn h...

September 14, 2010. A gentle little thing, a sparrow,. Perched himself upon a ruined fence of stones. Beneath the summer sun,. Protected from its glaring rays by rustling leaves. That swayed above him,. Casting dappled shadows by his side. It was the perfect day. Along the wall, just up the hill,. A subtle movement caught the sparrow’s ever-watchful eye:. A lovely creature came, a cat. With fluid, captivating stride. And fur as black as night. Without a thought of care. Until it fairly gleamed. What gay ...

December 31, 2007. My Last Post of 2007. Maybe I should just talk about Dickens. Basically, I love him. He has such an amazing way with words! EDIT: I got distracted and stayed up after all. It's now. Happy New Year, everyone! December 27, 2007. After breakfast and chores, there are fifteen minutes before the nine o'clock meeting. There's not a lot to say about that time, other than that there is always a really good message and that, if it's Wednesday, I play the piano for the songs (Jane T. pla...Late ...

A brewery of sorts. Thursday, December 11, 2008. I wrote this awhile back and am posting this now while in the midst of finals to remind myself why I like my school and my major. Yes, I have a problem.). This inconsistency- craving excellence and yet hating the focus and specialization required to attain it in any given area- - has bothered me. Or at least it did bother me until I read the following excerpt from G.K.Chesterton's book What's Wrong with the World. Her best," but gives her all. The wife is ...

A brewery of sorts. Tuesday, August 21, 2007. Je suis fanatique des bouquinistes. I'm currently sitting in Soj. S world famous reading chair, relaxing after a long tour of practically all the bookshops in Paris. (See her blog for proof that I am actually here.)Why did we spend most of one of my few days in Paris doing that? Well, in the last thirty-six hours, I had already seen for the first time all of the following:. Bookshop. We visited Shakespeare and Co.,. Tea and Tattered Pages. Along the Seine....

A brewery of sorts. Thursday, October 19, 2006. I really appreciate all of you who have prayed for me during the last month or so. This year at Bible School seems to be off to quite an auspicious start and already has blown first year out of the water. My fellow upperclassmen (woohoo! Our focus on the Gospel in class has fed me richly. God is teaching me to rest. I can even be on meals by myself with confidence! To-live (played by Uncle Neil) tomorrow. Hooray for personal evangelism!

A brewery of sorts. Monday, July 24, 2006. Chivalry is not dead. A wizened old man with wrinkled tattooes, lots of stubble, and a veteran's cap opened a door for me at the post office today before effortlessly got around me to open the next one for me. I'd like to see some young ATI guy do better. "They don't make'em like they used to.". Sunday, July 16, 2006. Something I've Been Pondering. What if you and I see the color we both call "blue" differently? Say I see it as the color you call green. See, the...

A brewery of sorts. Friday, July 20, 2007. Half a Mustard Seed? After discussing a disappointing situation with a friend yesterday, the friend told me she was going to pray for a miracle in said situation. My thoughts as I mulled over the conversation later went something like this:. I appreciate her faith, but I'm not going to waste my faith on that. I'm saving up for a miracle for Paige.
