Click the pic to learn more about. Kane/Miller Book Publishers and this amazing series. Talking about sex has always come easily to me as a parent. This might be surprising to hear from a mother of three boys, but it’s absolutely true. As preschool and elementary school came and went, so did the inevitable questions.

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Saturday, January 3, 2015. A singular focus -or- What it feels like to go back to teaching. The magical red bucket. It all started with a red bucket. The very one pictured above. I got the job. The boys and I took off for Alaska within weeks of the good news to join Aquaman who was already fishing. I began reading what my future students had been assigned for the summer. Here's proof - me with the book on board a seiner with Aquaman. There ha...

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Our adventures raising a yellow lab. Scroll to bottom for most recent post. After many years of being dogless, we are proud dog owners again. On Christmas Eve, Husband and I drove out in the country and took a look at a litter of pups. Momma and Pop were on sight, a chocolate lab and a black lab. We were smitten with them both and hope that their cheerful and affectionate dispositions will manifest in their pups. But the next night, she did n...

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Thursday, June 26, 2014. So This is What Panic Feels Like. The Redhead and Second Favorite Uncle hanging out in London. I thought I would be writing about how The Redhead went to London with Favorite Uncle and Second Favorite Uncle and had a fabulous time. But I'm not. The Redhead goes International! This trip was a gift from The Uncles for The Redhead's 15th year. He is old enough to travel without parents and young enough to still want.

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Friday, July 15, 2016. Slowly. Clearly. Calmly. Copper River sunset aboard the F/V Pelagic. The Wrecking Crew has been taking turns going out commercial fishing with Aquaman. The Redhead went first, prompting arguments of which of the three knuckleheads are our "favorite" and who gets treated the best, etc. I emphatically declared that we have no favorites - that they all annoy and irritate us equally. What do you mean? I asked. For about...

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Thursday, June 23, 2016. On board the bowpicker. I'm officially a gillnetter's wife. The Wrecking Crew and I arrived back in Alaska exactly 10 days ago. Since that time, I've received roughly 400 bug bites, three sunburns, blisters on the soles of my feet, and callouses on my fingers. I have mended nets in sunshine and rain. I have only slept the minimal amount required to keep on going. Um What does it mean to "buy in"? Do I sound proud?

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Saturday, August 13, 2016. Fear And a little hope. The Cordova Fishermen's Memorial in Cordova, Alaska. I spend a lot of time in Alaska worried. Scared. Afraid for what might go wrong or an accident that could happen. These worries are not unfounded. They are built upon a foundation of cautionary tales and true life rescues, narrow escapes and tragedies. And sometimes facts and figures. Here it is, y'all. Source: Bureau Of Labor Statistics.

Longest Days, Shortest Years" Column. Letters My Dad Wrote Me. Wednesday, January 29, 2014. There are things that separate me in my house of boys. I am the other. I am the girl. I do not concern myself with the inner workings of solar panels and recharging batteries and hydrogen. My eyes glaze over when they talk about Minecraft and I simply do not understand the frenzies they work themselves into over the xBox. We are so very different, my children and I. We share an interest! Here's the secret formula:.
