summer dress made from existing dress

http://theravingseamstress.com/projects/new-summer-dress-made-existing-one

A new summer dress made from an existing one. Including a lot of gathers… and some shirring. It’s the summer! So last week, while sweating profusely and sipping a cold drink, I remembered that I have a summer dress that is perfect for this kind of weather. It is light and airy, made of super fine cotton and is simply gathered in the middle. So what is the next logical step in this case? Take the whole dress apart, draft a pattern from it and make a completely new dress? Yes, very much so. I often forego ...

Making a pair of “ugg” boot slippers. So I interjected my current work by making myself some slippers. Not that I hadn’t thought about it before, but, seeing that our flat was so warm, I found it quite hard to get motivated to make something I didn’t need. I started by tracing my feet on cardboard with a pen, which was the quickest and easiest part of the whole pattern-making exercise. Sewing the slippers together. The lining definitely needed overlocking around the edges. Faux fur tends to make a hu...

Clubwear might just be my passion. So, I have just returned from HTID Summer Gathering and I have to say, apart from absolutely loving the experience, I felt rather comfortable in my self-made clubwear outfits. Obviously, improvements can be made and I am still practicing. My finishings are not perfect, despite using an overlock and coverlock machine. They are a lot better than they used to be, but I still have a long way to go. However, there is one thought I have not been able to shake:. I want neon co...

June 2016 - The Raving Seamstress

http://theravingseamstress.com/2016/06

Monthly Archives: June 2016. A self-drafted corset dress with layered skirt. Courtesy of Butterick B5797. Also, I think this might have been the first time I brought exclusively self-made clothes anywhere on holiday! I can’t believe I managed that. Granted, one of them was only a refashion of a kaftan. But since that involved making an actual dress out of what can only be described as a fabric square, it’s basically self-made. 😉. I think I might have already mentioned this in my last post, but I have ne...

July 2016 - The Raving Seamstress

Monthly Archives: July 2016. A Summer Dress with an Interesting Geometric Back Detail. Self-drafted from a Burda pattern. So when I was looking for a pattern to make an alteration to, this came to mind quite quickly. I had this idea in mind that I would change the back of the dress to be a bit more open and airy. I wanted something that combines comfort with style in the summer heat, while also satisfying my love of geometry. So here is the result, a slightly different dress with a geometric back detail.

The diary of a dedicated Ubuntu user that lucked into his dream job working on the Ubuntu team. Tuesday, July 22, 2014. So, given Jono’s departure a few weeks back, I bet a lot of folks have been wondering about the Canonical Community Team. For a little background, the community team reports into the Ubuntu Engineering division of Canonical, which means that they all report into me. We have not been idle, and this post is to discuss a bit about the Community Team going forward. What has Stayed the Same?

An update – or: what have I been doing for the last three months? In August, I made a post saying I went for a job interview, but didn’t get the job. So if you were wondering where I have been for the last three months, I have been doing some bookkeeping and general administration for a Swiss company. So I’ve been quite busy, just not blogging about it. That will change though, I promise. Butterick B5209 – an elegant version with added sleeves and front bodice detail. I made it for a job interview, and a...
