The start of a special relationship | therealburdock

https://therealburdock.wordpress.com/2013/08/01/the-start-of-a-special-relationship

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Posted by: The Real Burdock. August 1, 2013. The start of a special relationship. You may be aware that I am a huge fan of HF Holidays. Without wishing to conjure up Thatcher and Reagan, I think of it as a special relationship. More than just a guest and holiday provider. Well I have been known to enjoy the occasional alcoholic refreshment and blog about it too, but this seemed a step too far. To my surprise, Mr Smith replied and...

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Posted by: The Real Burdock. August 1, 2012. Sketching and the defence of the Arctic Tern. I used to enjoy art when I was at school and it occurred to me that it could be a hobby I would enjoy. So I took myself off to Alnmouth in Northumberland for a short sketching holiday. Taxi driver’s wisdom: You can’t get lost in Alnmouth There’s water on three sides. We all introduced ourselves. Some belong to local sketching groups&#46...

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Tales from the bootroom. When asked how I’m feeling I normally answer: Bearing up but I must confess to feeling rather sad today. My favourite walking boots can go no further. We’ve been together for a long time and they’ve never let me down or given me a single hot spot, let alone a blister. I’ve tried another new pair of insoles but it’s no use. If they were tyres I’d retread them, but it’s time to say goodbye. You are commenti...

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Posted by: The Real Burdock. March 12, 2012. Smugglers, limestone and Peter Pan. On a recent day off I headed for the Dorset coast and one of my favourite spots, Lulworth Cove. Lulworth Cove is a horseshoe-shaped sheltered bay, and a lovely spot to while away some time. I started off from the car park next to the visitor centre and took the wide path uphill, heading west and towards the sea. Because of the sheltered harbour, smug...

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Posted by: The Real Burdock. May 30, 2013. All aboard the HF express. Wednesday is traditionally the rest, or do your own thing, day in an HF Holiday week, but this time an option excursion was arranged for anyone who wanted to travel on a steam train from Paignton to. Dartmouth, followed by a cruise up the River Dart to Totnes. Or charitable donations, although a few volunteers help at Churston station. I was particularly lookin...

Hypocrisy, outlaws and Nik Wax | Passage to Patagonia

Just another WordPress.com site. The Moreno glacier and a cracking day. Mt Fitzroy, snow and 40 types of beer →. Hypocrisy, outlaws and Nik Wax. December 18, 2011. Fitzroy here we come. A four hour drive across the Patagonian wilderness, following the shoreline of the Lago Argentino to reach the tiny end-of-the-road settlement of El Chalten which is located in the north of Los Glaciares national park under the spectacular Fitzroy range. Now it’s time for a Burdock rant. I call them Burrants. Spending the...

End of the adventure | Passage to Patagonia

https://passagetopatagonia.wordpress.com/2011/12/23/end-of-the-adventure

Just another WordPress.com site. Evita, Madonna and Maradona. End of the adventure. December 23, 2011. We visited the delta of the Rio Platta this morning, where many of the houses are built on stilts. Across the river is Uruguay. Buenos Aires has a population of 3.5m, living mainly in flats. A. Further 14m live in the district, adding up to about a third of the total Argentinean people. Such is the influence of too much tango dancing. Musing on what might happen next? My favourite photo of the trip.

Just another WordPress.com site. Hypocrisy, outlaws and Nik Wax. Indian bread, dandelions and a grasshopper. →. Mt Fitzroy, snow and 40 types of beer. December 19, 2011. Mount Fitzroy trekking. Weather was grey, windy and raining. Not at all promising. There was a choice of walks, one of 5 miles and another over double the length with 2,300ft of ascent. I know my duty as a heroic walking bear and chose the latter. We drove to the start. It began to snow and then hail. We finished in warm sunshine and had...

Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. Brief Encounter and Silence of the Lamb. December 16, 2011. A poignant moment as I said goodbye to our Chilean guide. She said that, whilst our encounter had been brief, it had been intense. We promised to write. I must have got some dust in my eyes which made them water. We set off in the bus to Cerro Castillo, the border with Argentina. The border crossing was quick and straightforward. Just a long look from the guard. I was introduced to a nine week old ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Mt Fitzroy, snow and 40 types of beer. A little Wales beyond Wales →. Indian bread, dandelions and a grasshopper. December 20, 2011. This was our last day of mountain walking. We travelled north to the Laguna del Desierto. This remote lake lies of the northern limited of the Parque National Los Glacieres and was once at the centre of a territory dispute between Chile and Argentina. The day was bright and sunny with the wind easing away to leave the peaks clear. They remin...

Just another WordPress.com site. Lakes, reflections and the ice age question. Catamarans, glaciers and banter →. December 14, 2011. We had a choice of walks today: easy pleasant walking on a well defined track alongside Lago Nordenskjold which should provide great views of Mt Almirante Nieto. Or a 13 mile walk with around 3,700 ft of ascent to the very foot of the Towers of Paine, the famous granite pillars that rise over 2,000ms above the Patagonian steppe. Are you famous in Britain? Just another WordPress.com site. Brief Encounter and Silence of the Lamb. Hypocrisy, outlaws and Nik Wax →. The Moreno glacier and a cracking day. December 17, 2011. The Perito Moreno Glacier National Park is the reason Calafate was created. Almost like a small town filmset with shops, restaurants and hotels. Each building has an imported, artificial feel: Scandinavian wood, English brick, American neon. A sharp contrast with the natural environment it’s been plonked into. The Moreno glacier gets around ...

The REAL Bumpus McGee. These are the stories and thoughts from the Life of the REAL Bumpus Mcgee, who is just living the life one day at a time. Wednesday, December 14, 2011. A list of things I AM going to miss about Vienna. The amazing public transit system. True seasons (even though I am not a fan of the cold). The ability to say I am living in Europe. therealburdock | Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes

Thoughts about walking, the countryside and cakes. Tales from the bootroom. Posted by: The Real Burdock. June 12, 2014. Tales from a small island. What could be finer than a weekend on the Isle of Wight? So I booked a country house break with HF Holidays at Freshwater Bay, sorted out my ferry crossing and headed off. Arriving early at Portsmouth, I was allowed onto an earlier sailing. A flexible approach that some rail companies would do well to note. Built in the late 1790s, when it was called The Georg...

You have got the most ridiculaus arguments. And how you call most of us stupid, when it's usually you whose wrong. You always complain how people say things about you having a black boyfriend. And your little abortion thing. Are you not. Haunted by the unborn cry? On your little internest life or in real life.

A piece of my soul exposed. The Internet: Where reputations come to die. Do we forget that people are human beings the minute they become famous? Do they no longer have feelings? Do they suddenly go from being human beings to things that we can use and abuse? They may be entertainers but you do know they don’t actually EXIST for your amusement, right? Why did they think it okay to attack him and blame him for the fact that their favourite show might be going down the drain? Because it seems that when peo...
