There was always doubt

There was always doubt. Wednesday, 7 September 2011. In his book The Art of Travel. Alain de Botton describes the "sublime" as those things which display a great power, a power greater than that of humans. The word is intended to be used to describe things which emphasise the smallness of humanity in comparison to the power and wonder of nature. Most commonly this meant heroic landscapes such as mountains, gorges, deserts etc. Other examples could include the experience of being in Sao Paolo or Hong Kong.

There was always doubt: Concrete streets

http://therewasalwaysdoubt.blogspot.com/2010/02/concrete-na.html

There was always doubt. Tuesday, 9 February 2010. With timber being an expensive import in a country of palm trees and steel and brick also prohibitively expensive for most of the populace, concrete has become the de facto building material for the Philippines. From Mega Manila. Despite this economical pragmatism, there is evidence of aspirational optimism too. Buildings are often built with future extension in mind. Concrete frames are erected and filled in but the ends and edges are left comple...This ...

http://therewasalwaysdoubt.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

There was always doubt. Wednesday, 4 November 2009. I Love Techno Rundown. This year I finally made it to I Love Techno. That annual gathering of 35 thousand or so techno and electro fans. It takes place in Ghent. Belgium, somewhere I only know about because of I Love Techno. Apparently it has its charms but the city is quite incidental to the fact that there are a series of huge sheds nearby that are perfect for hosting massive raves. Here was the itinerary:. 19:34 Eurostar to Brussels via Lille. 23:20 ...

There was always doubt. Friday, 31 July 2009. What what what what what what what. I caught Whistla on SubFM for the first time the other week and once again I’ve found something which I’ve completely slept on. Whistla, I gather, is the main exponent of the “future garage” movement which is some sort of 2-step revival thing. His tracks and those by other artists among of movement have reignited my love of 2-step and the joys of “vocal science”. According to Mr Reynolds in his 1999 article Adult Hardcore.

The benefit of art classes, however short they are. May 16, 2009. A picture-less post today unfortunately. The problem with photographing drawings is getting the right daylight (and overcoming laziness). So when the light’s good and I feel motivated I’ll post up the remainder of the drawings I’ve done to date. Anyway, I recently received an email from Guy Noble. A practicing artist and the excellent tutor for an evening drawing course I did last year at Central Saint Martins. So I might pass on this.

June 16, 2009. 4 Responses to “Untitled (man #2)”. June 16, 2009 at 10:07 pm. WowI am seeing the improvement here. Are you still taking drawing classes? This portrait, unlike previous of this man actually has life to it. I could almost see him lift his head. I think it’s the shadow and dark line under the chin with the strong light on the top of his head. Good job. June 17, 2009 at 7:57 pm. Thank you very much! June 17, 2009 at 10:47 pm. Once upon a time there was a house

Lördag 28 maj 2016. Flavel House, Astoria.
