The Road Back to the Ironman

The Road Back to the Ironman. The Long Road, Part 4. Here are some final thoughts on the race:. The swim didn't work out the way I planned, but hey I broke my arm 6 weeks before the race. I was happy that I was able to complete the swim in the time that I did. I enjoyed this experience, because I had to work harder than I ever have to achieve my goal and for that I am proud of my performance. Even though I said during the IRONMAN Race, "I will never do this again.", I will be back. 2013 belongs t...It wa...

The Road Back to the Ironman: The Long Road, Part 3

http://theroadbacktotheironman.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-long-road-part-3_25.html

The Road Back to the Ironman. The Long Road, Part 3. As I entered the end of the bike course, volunteers told me to slow to a stop and dismount. I handed them my bike (At an Ironman you don't have to rack your bike, they do that for you.). It was 5:07 and I needed to cross that finish line before midnight or all my hard work would be for nothing. I estimated that I would finish at 11:45. I saw spectators line the run path with signs like "You trained longer than Cardashian was married". The shoot is wher...

The Road Back to the Ironman. Just Do It, but Do It Right 215 Days. There is no way around it, this is big. A 24 mile swim = 3,865 meters. That's over 150 laps in a 25 meter pool. The only way to do it, is to get in the water and swim for an hour and 20 minutes. But it is not that simple. Swimming is about form. Maintain form and you will go fast. Go all out and swim like a loon-a-tick and you will get tired very quickly. Form means head down, elbows high and steady rhythmic breathing.

The Road Back to the Ironman: August 2012

The Road Back to the Ironman. Test drive 83 Days to Go. Just because I did one Ironman, there is no guaranteeing that I could finish another in time. With that fear in mind, I signed up for the Mossman Olympic Distance Tri in Bridgeport Ct. At 1/4 the distance of an Ironman, this race is a good indicator for me of how I will do. The Mossman, like the Ironman Arizona, is flat. So how did you do? I got out of the water in 32 minutes. A minute slower than last year, no? Chalk that up to the current. You kno...

The Road Back to the Ironman. My Summer Vacation 110 Days to Go. Someone asking me what my summer job was? Training." I replied. I've biked so much that my arms are two tone. Four weeks into my. Summer vacation, my week looks like this:. S: Brick workout of bike 25 miles/ 3-6 mile run. M: Swim 4000 meter (2.5 miles). W: Bike a century (100 miles). F: Swim 2000 meters/ Run 13.1 miles. It took someone else for you to realize this? Out of the water in 2.2 hours. Off the bike in 10.5 hours. This is what I di...

The Road Back to the Ironman. Lucky Break 225 days to go. You might have a stress fracture". Not the words I was hoping to hear. I'm back in the hands of Kyle the PT and he is trying to determine why I have pain in big toe. I don't know, it just hurts. Calm down David, think). You probably tendinitis.". Ice, lots of ice. A week passes and the pain is worse, but only when I run. How the hell am I going to train? Maybe Kyle will have better news. He feels the arch of my foot. Kyle laughs and presses harder.

The Road Back To Mexico

The Road Back To Mexico. The End of the Road Back To Mexico. Our journey is over. We accomplished what we set out to do. We sold our Washington possessions and drove a small car to Mexico. We have reached the end of the road. We are now living in Mexico. The world around us is full of volcanoes, sun, and tacos. The culture is different, and the language is difficult. There will be challenges ahead for sure. But we are excited to be here. Thank you for following our journey here. Sunday, October 23, 2011.
