The Rural Guy: October 2011

http://theruralguy.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Ramblings about rural Minnesota, our rural economy and rural politics. Thursday, October 20, 2011. Is Government Too Large? Few issues have captured the attention of Congress in the past year as much as the national debt; and with the debt now exceeding $14 trillion, who could blame them. Here in Minnesota the issue is not exactly debt reduction, as the state is required to have a balanced budget; but in many ways the sentiment is the same. Writing this post near the doorway where we have a growth chart ...

Ramblings about rural Minnesota, our rural economy and rural politics. Tuesday, October 23, 2012. Taking the Temperature of Rural Main Street. In today’s environment, any discussion of economic development inevitably includes the concept of entrepreneurship and small business development; and such discussions are particularly relevant when assessing rural communities. So I was pleased to see a recent study published by Will Craig and Bruce Schwartau from the University of Minnesota that did just that.

The Rural Guy: March 2012

http://theruralguy.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Ramblings about rural Minnesota, our rural economy and rural politics. Thursday, March 22, 2012. Spring is a Time for Optimism. It sure felt like spring was in the air when the February jobs report was released showing an increase of 227,000 jobs. While that was a bit higher than most analysts expected, what actually was most impressive was that February was the third consecutive month in which the economy created over 200,000 jobs. Having all of these indicators trending upward at the same time gives on...

December 8, 2011. RADvent: Day 6 - Starting. Start simply. Feel the fear, invite it in, and start anyway. If you have to begin again, it doesn’t mean you failed. Starting over builds momentum for the big finish! I love starting projects. I do it regularly. It's just a toss up if I finish or not. Now, the bigger stuff, I don't enjoy starting so much. Yet, I can't seem to find the courage, time or ways to let go of my reasoning as to why it can't work. Back to the drawing board. Think simple. Starting is t...

The Ruralhood

Thursday, August 6, 2015. I blame the turkeys. I'm the little girl, far right, in the photo. No fence separating us in this photo! Sorry for the grainy picture.). When I was a young child, my paternal grandparents (see header photo, bottom far right) were raising turkeys, probably. I was a child.). Turkeys were a different matter. One day we were visiting my grandparents and ended up outside the turkey pen, looking in through the wire. Bold, but not so beautiful, the turkeys moved closer to the wire fence.
