Thursday, August 2, 2012. Book Review: The Flirt by Booth Tarkington. I thought, in the character of Hedrick and in the not-too-affluent Madison household as a whole. As in so many of Tarkington's books, there's a wonderful flavor of early-20th-century American life—the description of a hot summer afternoon on the residential streets of that unnamed Midwestern city, with all its commonplace details, gives you not just the feeling of being there, but the sense that you have. Wednesday, July 22, 2015. Skirmish at McKendrick's - Part III. Lucy was a wide-eyed, silent child who saw much and said little, whose favorite pastime was to slip off into the woods near the house and solemnly confide her opinions on things to the birds that twittered in the bushes around the hollow log in her own particular nook. They heard many curious things, which the adults around her would likely never have imagined. She stopped suddenly. Her eyes, moving along the ground a few yards in front o...

Saturday, August 8, 2015. I am pleased to report the second draft of. Is officially complete, at an unknown wordcount. It filled a five-subject notebook—really more like a four-and-a-half-subject notebook, since I had torn out some pages of another project from the front—and spilled over a couple dozen pages or so into a new one. The history and culture of the world's most exotic continent. A Storm Hits Valparaiso. If You Go Into The Woods. Let’s Get Digital. An Emigrant’s Tale: The Ballad Of The Irish Don Juan. Posted by David Gaughran. October 3, 2011. Don Juan O’Brien left Baltinglass in 1811 as plain old John O’Brien, earning his new moniker in Buenos Aires, not due to disproportionate amorous exploits, but from the city-dwellers propensity to localise everyone’s name, making even an Irishman from Wicklow sound exotic. He saw a gleam in the old man’s eyes which he could not quite interpret. Was approval indicated, or did he have something up his sleeve? The rector put the lamp back on the table, puffed at his pipe, and looked at the young man a moment before he spoke. 8220;So you are a believer, I’m glad to hear that. What do you believe in? The Second Set

Mama Had a Baby and Her Head Popped Off! On February 16, 2015, in Crazy Stuff. What does that mean exactly? Personally, I think it means mama had a baby and then a few more and then they grew and mama became slightly more and more insane every day until her head popped right off! OK, maybe, I am ever so slightly exaggerating. My head is still attached. And that my friends is how that child’s favorite chant came to be. Or maybe not but I think it fits and is reasonable so I am just gonna roll with it.
