Thinking on Their Feet. Watching and reviewing dance from the rainy British Isles. I hesitate to refer to myself as a balletomane, as it doesn’t sound like I have either the figure or the hair for it, but since the OED defines the term fairly inoffensively as a ballet enthusiast it’s probably a fair cop. Thinking on Their Feet. Watching and reviewing dance from the rainy British Isles. Encore une fois…. September 17, 2014. September 17, 2014. So, having had my three month review at my new job today, I realize it’s now no longer really a new job and I should stop using it as an excuse for being too busy to blog. Also, I had a tax rebate come through (woohoo! So have money to spend on ballet tickets. Hoofuckinray! Exciting review from Judith Mackrell. Photo credit: BalletBoyz website. You are commenting us...

Thinking on Their Feet. Watching and reviewing dance from the rainy British Isles. 8216;[She’s] a slut and [he’s] a fool’ – Manon at the Royal Ballet. September 24, 2014. This week I have been much more organised and actually booked my tickets for the ballet I want to see! Which is Kenneth MacMillan’s Manon). Last time I saw it I cried. And wanted to challenge the notion that dance was only light entertainment. This he did, and that’s why I’m super-excited for Friday! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. You are ...
Why dance? | Thinking on Their Feet

Thinking on Their Feet. Watching and reviewing dance from the rainy British Isles. September 22, 2014. September 24, 2014. So, sadly I didn’t get to go to Ballet Boyz last week: a) because it sold out and b) because I got inveigled into going to the pub after work. Ticks off one autumn resolution at least- more booze. However, I have started re-reading Jennifer Homans’ amazing Apollo’s Angels- a history of ballet. Reading this, it seemed outlandish- a completely bizarre idea, that ballet class could impr...

Dressing Up – Entrechat Quatre
https://entrechatquatre.wordpress.com/2015/11/16/dressing-up
Interweaving, chatting, dancing. November 16, 2015. Of course I went as a ballerina for Hallowe’en! It involves minimal expense and I was making a tutu skirt anyway! It’s a fashion tutu, rather than a true romantic tutu, and I will post about making it soon.). If you’re disappointed that it’s not scary, just call it the Ghost of Fonteyn. Or Myrtha. Or Giselle when she’s DED. The wonderful diva stage makeup was from a tutorial by Kathryn Morgan. I have no idea why I look so arsey in this photo. You are co...

January 22, 2015. January 23, 2015. Junor Souza in Firebird. (danceeurope.net). Here’s some pics of one of my favourite male dancers at the moment, ENB’s Junor Souza. I saw him dance the arabesque dance in the Nutcracker this Christmas, and I found his dancing very striking and sensual – and surprisingly sexy for this traditional family classic. Here’s his bio. January 28, 2015. January 28, 2015. I don’t usually wear make-up most days. Anyway yesterday I had some bright rose lipstick on and didn’t take it off for class. I was getting changed afterwards and a classmate told me how she liked my lipstick. She said she kept seeing it during class which cheered her up, and she was using it for spotting during centre practice. I said I’d bought it recently to cheer myself up a bit, and I was glad it was having the same effect on others! GET UR FREAK ON.

GET UR FREAK ON. January 27, 2015. Readers in the UK may have seen this advert on telly – it is being broadcast here quite a lot during peak evening time hours. I think it’s brilliant and I love the choice of Missy Elliot’s absolute tune. Plus, I’m often berated by gym-going friends for not doing “aerobic” exercise, as they see ballet class as just doing some nice stretches for a bit. I’d like to see them do an hour and a half of hard graft in the studio. Rosy Lips →. 2 thoughts on “ GET UR FREAK ON.
Decathlon’s sportswear pointe shoe nightmare – Entrechat Quatre

Interweaving, chatting, dancing. Middot; Shoes and feetness. Decathlon’s sportswear pointe shoe nightmare. November 22, 2015. I was quite excited when I found out that Decathlon. Are now stocking dancewear on their British website. They’re known for cheap sportswear and I do like a bargain. However I feel some kinda way about their pointe shoe…. You would be much better off talking to a specialist to fit your shoe. All of this really pains me just because it’s so dangerous! Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Thinking On Social Work. Lean Innovators | Agile is not a process
Agile is not a process. Eclipse IDE configuration: TypeScript in a Java EE/Maven pipeline. I did this experiment to test out how putting together everything under a single IDE in a single project worked; I discourage this single project approach and I suggest instead to split the web front-end into a separate project, built with an appropriate toolchain. Moreover, while Eclipse TypEcs. Works fine, you’d be probably better off with a web-first IDE, like JetBrains. Apache Velocity for SVG. We create a dyna...

Thinking On The Edge
There is a place in mind and heart where creative thinking runs up against expectations, assumptions and conditioning. It is a point in the process of discovery where we struggle with the attempt to go beyond our habitual ways of thinking to achieve genuine understanding. Whenever we challenge that conditioned thought, we are thinking on the edge. To the degree that we are successful in that effort, we manage to take new steps in our own personal development. Then I hear the words, Oh my god! Love's mome...

Thinking on These Things
Thinking on These Things. National Geographic's Photo of the Day. Saturday, January 29, 2011. Christ didn't come to a democracy. I somehow missed the news about revolution in Tunisia. When I heard about Egypt's political turmoil, my internet search led to this article in boston.com. As a geography and history teacher, I was intrigued by the idea that perhaps we have no business pushing secular democracy on other societies. How often does our political ideology interfere with our effort to share Christ?
