Peter Watts — Blindsight | Thomas Eaves
https://thomaseaves.wordpress.com/2009/08/18/peter-watts-blindsight
A Creative Commons Reader’s Blog. August 18, 2009. Peter Watts — Blindsight. All I can really say is that Peter Watts is perhaps the best writer of hard science fiction alive today. Trilogy it was hard to imagine how he could surpass himself. Then he resurrected vampires from the Pleistocene and sent one along with a ship of augmented humans to defend a rapidly approaching posthuman society from infinitely intelligent and completely self-ignorant alien starfish. I am at a loss for words. You are commenti...
Cheeseburger Brown: The Bikes of New York | Thomas Eaves
https://thomaseaves.wordpress.com/2009/01/29/cheeseburger-brown-the-bikes-of-new-york
A Creative Commons Reader’s Blog. January 29, 2009. Cheeseburger Brown: The Bikes of New York. Note: This was supposed to go up last week, but somehow it never made it up while I was away. Sorry about that.😛. To get to the UK. But in all seriousness, it is rare to find a piece of science fiction writing this impressive. Or The Count of Monte Cristo. In terms of quality I would honestly put this up with Ender’s Game. Just shorter. And not about a boy fighting a war. Yeah. The independent country of Quebec.
Peter Watts: Maelstrom and βehemoth | Thomas Eaves
https://thomaseaves.wordpress.com/2008/12/12/peter-watts-maelstrom-and-βehemoth
A Creative Commons Reader’s Blog. December 12, 2008. Today’s post is about two books, both by Peter Watts, author of the previously mentioned Starfish. I started reading βehemoth. First, because I’m a dunce. I got about halfway through (a remarkable feat in itself, I suppose, which suggests to me that each of these books could stand alone) before kicking myself for reading the books out of order. The website at rifters.com. Gives you a lovely little timeline of his books, and I apparently missed that.

Vaulting and Vellum: September 2011
http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Sunday, 25 September 2011. A Few Thoughts on "Criticism". But it occurred to me again that it's built into the very way we think about secondary and tertiary analysis in my discipline: we call it Criticism. And so I wonder if maybe we can decide, en masse. As it were, to change the terminology we use, and maybe in that way, change the way we think about secondary scholarship. I'm here to learn. Saturday, 24 September 2011. Second: making drink...
Vaulting and Vellum: September 2012
http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Tuesday, 25 September 2012. Pedagogy, Bias, and an Entirely Unrelated Amusing Internet Video. Last week, I had my students read a 1988 article by Peggy McIntosh called "The Invisible Knapsack", an abridged version of which can be found here. My students' first reaction was "how old is. So it's with a great degree of skepticism that my students came to a list meant to highlight white privilege, with items on it like:. I can go into a music shop...

Vaulting and Vellum: This May Seem Like a Strange Question...
http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2012/02/this-may-seem-like-strange-question.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Wednesday, 1 February 2012. This May Seem Like a Strange Question. Someone asked me the other day, and I really couldn't come up with a satisfactory response:. Why, in English departments, do we write book-length works of "criticism"? This isn't to imply any sort of value judgement. I'm just throwing this out there. What do you think? That is, if a) there is a you reading this, and b) you have thoughts. Vaulting and Vellum: Righteous anger
http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2012/04/righteous-anger.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Monday, 16 April 2012. Offered with only one comment. That comment is, of course, "Fuck you, anonymous miniature trimmer. Fuck you and your shitty scissors.". Labels: this douchebaggery must not stand. That makes me sick. When I was doing the manuscript segment of the Colloquium for my Medieval Studies degree they told us about a guy who came in a few years previously and had clipped two of the manuscripts that they have there. . Is going to l...
Vaulting and Vellum: On Introversion and Academia, or, Take a Deep Breath and Stop Blaming Introversion

http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Monday, 5 March 2012. Good lord, I feel like a kid who just got his first upvotes on reddit* - we still have readers! And so, after shuffling back through my papers, I realize I said I would post about pedagogy. Perhaps you can see the problem. Have you ever heard a professor in a non-English discipline complain "why hasn't anyone taught these students to write? Well, someone has, probably to the best of her abilities. The problem is, Dr&#...

http://vaultingvellum.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Two medievalists blogging about the medieval and the mundane. Wednesday, 29 February 2012. Happy February 29th to one and all, and especially to those who get to celebrate their birthday on the right day for once :) In honour of the peculiarity of the day, here's a peculiar story, via the interwebs. About Saints Patrick and Bridget and popping the question:. Really, this should be an apology for not posting more, but I don't think anyone reads this anymore, so to whom would I apologise? What do you think?
