I posses this knowledge, and will pass it along to you. The original scapegoat was a goat that the Hebrews sent off into the hinterlands to atone for the sins of God’s people. A goat upon whose head are symbolically placed the sins of the people after which he is sent into the wilderness in the biblical ceremony for Yom Kippur [1].

Monday, March 31, 2008. Did you ever read “Gregory the Terrible Eater.”. I read it a few times when I was a wee child. A great picture-book by Mitchell Sharmat with really cool pictures by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey about this goat that eats a variety of terrible things that shouldn’t be food and eventually gets his act together and eats healthy food. Use this when trying to teach my future child not to eat tires and rusted metal. But that’s for a different blog. I did not learn my lesson from Gregory.
