February 22, 2015. February 22, 2015. Orange and deceiving from the outside. Its shell leaves little to be desired. Like a dog off the street. It seems “generic” to the untrained eye. Then the blade opens this monstrosity. And uncovers such treasure. Curiosity lies in its black beans within. If at the right time.

Why write this blog? Poetry About Colombian Life. My Stomach’s View. Como se dice…. Through My Colombian Eyes. A PCV on the coast of Colombia's exploration into the local culture and lifestyle. January 16, 2015. A gremlin screams from the side. And I am shackled into silence. Another voice pierces the quiet. And my mouth is sown shut. Over and over the grumbles continue. And I am a captive audience. Dark voices grow into raping screeches. Que grande es esta gringa. And I lay still. For if I protest.

Timeline – Corps Close-Up

A Peace Corps Journey from Jordan to Colombia. Because I found other blogs timelines exceedingly helpful during my application process, I kept track of my own. There is a line break between my COS of my service in Jordan and my reapplication. Note: because of my status as a PCJordan Evacuee, I did not have to re-interview or do some of the other steps of the application process, this sped up my application. September 2013 –. Began speaking with PC recruiters and attending PC events. Researched each post:...

A Peace Corps Journey from Jordan to Colombia. Posted by Carrie Shoultz. May 18, 2016. May 18, 2016. I thought I’d take this post to talk about schools in Colombia, since I will be spending a lot of time there. I’ve also realized I haven’t yet explained my primary project, so this will be the goals of this post. It’s text heavy so – you’re warned. There is, of course, a national teacher’s union here, called FECODE or. Federación Colombiana de Educadores. Education is divided into 5 stages. Ages 4 to 5).

A Peace Corps Journey from Jordan to Colombia. Finally a PCV (again)! Posted by Carrie Shoultz. April 23, 2016. April 23, 2016. I survived a second PST. I really thought maybe PST would be easier the second time around it’s not. In Barranquilla. Took my final LPI and hit the level I needed for swearing in. Final tests, medical wrap up, and final interviews. And then the day. That evening though oh man. All the kids from my neighborhood! After the pool party, I went home, showered and ate dinner. Then...

About Carrieكري شلتز – Corps Close-Up

https://carrieinpeacecorps.wordpress.com/about

A Peace Corps Journey from Jordan to Colombia. Here is this, in case you missed my introduction post Here. After much consideration, I reapplied the Peace Corps and am now set to be a part of the 7th group of volunteers to serve in Colombia since it reopened after more than a 20 year hiatus. I chose Webster University’s Global MA in International Relations. I do recognize my blessings, but as much as I have traveled I do recognize what a small sliver of the planet I really have seen. through my colourful lens | the world in my eyes

Through my colourful lens. The world in my eyes. Imprisoned rebels await freedom. About three months ago, the people of Colombia rejected a peace deal that would have ended a 52-year war with the FARC, the country’s largest rebel group. The results, resembling that of the Brexit decision, showed how divided the nation is; the ‘no’ campaign lead by less than 50,000 votes. After his parents were forced out of Cundinamarca, they moved to the capital, ending up on the streets. Jhonier and his mother, lat...

Decided we could live without a west-facing window since there is ample amount of light. Coming in through the other 3 windows. One window had to be blocked. Since there is no wall. Big enough for our bed without doing so. There were a few issues with the room we needed to solve:. To the left, you can see the view. Got move...
