Fictional Snorts - Marshall's Super-Sekrit Clubhouse
http://marshallpayne1.livejournal.com/173869.html
Can you keep a secret? Sep 1st, 2012 at 7:25 PM. In fiction, characters laugh, giggle, chuckle, guffaw, cackle, snigger, chortle, and titter. They also snort. Snort? Yes, I know what a snort is. From Merriam-Webster:. To force air violently through the nose with a rough harsh sound. Even in short fiction, character after character snort. Lately, in what I’ve been reading, fictional characters snort a lot! Snorting is an involuntary action. Can anyone reading this make themselves snort on command? I think...

Further inroads into the twenty-first century! - gaudior
http://gaudior.livejournal.com/454281.html
Further inroads into the twenty-first century! Herein I have acquired a tumble-blog! Http:/ things-that-are-great.tumblr.c. It is not a replacement for DW or LJ in any way, as it is exactly what it says on the tin: a collection of things that are cheering, lovely, powerful, funny, and otherwise great. I've maintained it for a week to make sure that it keeps being a good idea, and thus far, it has seemed to be, so there it is. Cuz, like, pictures of things are cool, you know? Reading: Steven Brust, Dzur.

Spot The Movie - The Undersea World of OtterChaos. And sometimes youre the fish. 15:57 17th November 2010. Utterly stealing John Scalzi's work (derived from someone else's idea, but a good one nonetheless) I've taken a selection of reasonably accurate but misleading SF (and related) movie synopses and removed the titles. You get to figure out what the movies are. Or not. Answers, with more of the same kind of thing, at Scalzi's filmcritic blog. Oceans's) 11. A lonely programmer discovers he's spendin...

ckd: Readercon
http://ckd.livejournal.com/91518.html
There's a lot I want to say about the Readercon. But other people have said most of what I wanted to say already - and my RSI is acting up, so typing is a bad idea. Two things I think need saying, though:. 2 I haven't yet asked for my money back for next year's preregistration. I will if I have to (see #1 for why I might not have to), and if so I will then turn around and donate it to BARCC. Sure, the policy says "non-refundable but transferable" - but hey, Readercon's policies are made to be broken.

"The undersea world has undergone a transformation from tranquil environment to a place of unspeakable violence, graphic murder and horrific danger. It is now the 27th century and mercenaries such as 'Emerald' Dead Eye Flint ply their deadly trade among the warring forces of man and nature.". So is it a platform game then?

Engineers, safety, why we're different and why it's complicated - spacefem's livejournal

Engineer, pilot, feminist, mother, etc. Engineers, safety, why we're different and why it's complicated. Jul 29th, 2015 at 1:06 PM. Whenever there's a high profile product safety case in the news, someone asks engineers this question:. Didn't you want to make your product as SAFE AS POSSIBLE? And here's how we respond:. I just read a wonderful article in The New Yorker about automotive safety ( The Engineer’s Lament: Two ways of thinking about automotive safety. By Malcolm Gladwell. Which, as the article...

The Dendritic Arbor: Perhaps I should flip a coin?
http://dendritic-arbor.blogspot.com/2010/08/perhaps-i-should-flip-coin.html
Watch a synthetic biologist being born. Monday, August 23, 2010. Perhaps I should flip a coin? I'm working out my class schedule for the upcoming semester, and I've run into a bit of a dilemma. Two classes are at the exact same time. Both clamor for my attention. Both are only offered in the fall, and this is my last year. They are as mutually exclusive as it is possible for two classes to be. I want to study systems biology in grad school. Therefore, I should get started. Taking this class may h...I sho...
