Half Dome Challenge: Elizabeth Burkhalter Ruyle
http://halfdomechallenge.blogspot.com/2009/02/elizabeth-burkhalter-ruyle.html
Friday, February 6, 2009. Over the next few months, I'm going to write a few words about the different people for whom we are walking in memory. Lizzie" was one of my dearest friends in college. I met her during my Freshman year at the University of San Francisco. Lizzie was elegant, beautiful, intelligent, and possessed great common sense, a rarity among most first year college students. She had a great sense of humor. Most importantly, she was a devout and faithful Catholic. After that year, I transfer...

Half Dome Challenge: July 2011
http://halfdomechallenge.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Sunday, July 17, 2011. Shower: Here I Come! Chris, Tirina and Alan Swartout at LYV Base Camp. I haven't written much about our base camp at Little Yosemite Valley, but it definitely deserves mention. It was certainly spartan - a necessity when you are carrying your every need on your back. But by backpacking standards, it was very decent. We used the round of one of the fallen trees, set upon a smaller round, to make a dining table. We used smaller sections of truck for chairs. Alan Swartout, Nevada Fall.

Half Dome Challenge: Half Dome
http://halfdomechallenge.blogspot.com/2011/07/half-dome.html
Friday, July 15, 2011. Today we hike Half Dome. This is it. This is the day I have been planning for, preparing for, and, yes, waiting for, for three long years. Only God knew how long it would take me to summit, and that I would persevere until today. (I suspect Duane knew this too. Being my husband he knows full well how stubborn I am! Permit Reminder Sign and No Camping above. 7600 ft. sign at the beginning of the Half Dome Trail. The view of Half Dome is obliterated by clouds. We reached the Cloud's ...

Half Dome Challenge: Happy Mother's Day
http://halfdomechallenge.blogspot.com/2009/05/happy-mothers-day.html
Sunday, May 10, 2009. Since today is Mother's Day (as well as because we both needed a rest after yesterday's hike on Mission Peak), I thought it appropriate to write about two of the people we are hiking in honor of: our moms. I have been blessed to have the best mom anyone could have asked for. (No, she's not perfect, but then again, who of us is? Not that I always realized this. Far from it. I went through my rebellious stage like most children do, albeit a bit later than most. Wil and Ariel Durant.

Sunday, May 29, 2011. I did not have a chance to hike this weekend. Sunday morning I showed up bright and early for the Mt. Hamilton Classic. This annual bike race is put on by the San Jose Bicycle Club. The elite of the biking community ride their bikes from San Jose to Livermore, over Mt. Hamilton. It's a grueling ride, whichever direction you choose to take and a real challenge for communicators. Posted by Christina Sand. San Jose Bicycle Club. Sunday, May 22, 2011. First Holy Communion Cake. Half Dome Challenge: March 2011
http://halfdomechallenge.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 26, 2011. After the fun we had last year. We drove down to Marina the night before and stayed at the Ramada just as we did last year. Unlike last year, however, the weather was wet with a light rain falling during part of the run. The Army didn't have any need to add water to make mud this year. All they had to do was dig holes and let the rain do it for them! I was wearing a broad brimmed hiking hat. Posted by Christina Sand. Labels: Big Sur Mud Run. Sunday, March 13, 2011. Today's hike ...
