Today in the Desert: “There is Need of Only One Thing”

http://www.todayinthedesert.blogspot.com/2007/09/there-is-need-of-only-one-thing.html

Today in the Desert. Reflections on selected Scripture passages. Friday, September 21, 2007. There is Need of Only One Thing. Tell her then to help me." 41 But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 there is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.". I’ve toyed with several ideas, and finally drawn a conclusion. Here’s what I think. What is significant is that for her it all centers on Jesus Christ.

Today in the Desert: March 2006

http://www.todayinthedesert.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Today in the Desert. Reflections on selected Scripture passages. Monday, March 06, 2006. As I write this, I am weary and dejected, without vision or energy, or even hope. As I read Paul’s letter, I am inspired and even more dejected. By my own weary faith. How did that happen? This is the example he wants us to imitate: devotion to Christ at all cost. So, Paul has lost his mind, right? He has lost his heart. To Christ. I marvel at Paul’s wholehearted devotion to Jesus Christ, and his ability to rejoice a...

Today in the Desert. Reflections on selected Scripture passages. Thursday, July 27, 2006. 13Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes who are they, and where did they come from? If you are filled with a sense of hopelessness, with tears as your daily bread, how do you read a passage like this one? Do we take the word of God at its word? Or, is it another way to despair? I mean, waiting for God to wipe away every tear from your eyes, well, you’re waiting to die, aren’t you? He's worth it....

Today in the Desert. Reflections on selected Scripture passages. Saturday, January 27, 2007. When The Wine Runs Out. 2:1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine."4 And Jesus said to her, "Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? What do you do with a passage like this one, when you feel empty? Wine was a nece...

Your God Will Be My God: February 2006

http://moabitewoman.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html

Your God Will Be My God. From her home in the desert a young woman reflects on the God revealed in Jesus Christ and through the words of Scripture. Wednesday, February 08, 2006. I'm glad you came. The warm breeze from the desert is blowing in through my open windows, causing the candles to flicker. The world outside is dark but here, in this little room, there may be light enough to see by and silence enough to hear what God will say. Posted by Ruth at 4:00 AM. View my complete profile.

Normal Life Adventure: I still exist

http://normallifeadventure.blogspot.com/2015/01/i-still-exist.html

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Wednesday, January 21. It has been a turbulent three months during which I have not blogged. On church, I have settled for the razzmatazz cinema church, which is theologically too conservative for me but is the best for my son, and since we dragged him to this town kicking and screaming against his will we have prioritised his wishes in selecting a church.

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Thursday, September 4. There is a big hole - engineers are looking into it. I've just been on a visit this morning to a pumping station at the end of an interceptor sewer. It is the biggest hole with pumps in that I have ever looked into: 40m deep. It has a lift to get to the bottom, with stops at the landings on the way. Impressive! Velvet Elvis - Rob Bell.

Normal Life Adventure: Ford KA power steering fluid leak

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Wednesday, August 19. Ford KA power steering fluid leak. OK, so the garage topped me up. End of noise. "Fine", I thought. But today I see I am leaving a trail of oil spots, which I expect are the new power steering fluid making a quick getaway. A quick trawl through the web suggests this is a common problem. Solutions:. Normal Life Adventure: Commuting from the new town

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Tuesday, September 9. Commuting from the new town. This has been generally very good. It is a longer journey than I am used to, but 75 minutes on empty dual carriageway through scenic countryside can be less draining than the 50 minutes I used to spend through urban areas. Normal Life Adventure: What next with the case?

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Wednesday, September 3. What next with the case? We are still reeling from the shock of unexpectedly losing the case. We feel very strongly aggrieved by this, though there is no official right of appeal. Meanwhile, we here that one of his associates, a former curate of the church, has lost her job in the church. As curate she had to do what the vicar s...

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Thursday, December 12. Deacons. Acts 6:2 is wrong. Or at least the translation of it is. Which becomes significant when you come to women deacons such as Phoebe later in the New Testament - they too were preachers. Normal Life Adventure: Calm is trying to settle on us, but failing

If you want to walk on water you've got to get out of the boat" - John Ortberg. The Embalse de Riano in northern Spain. The picture was taken by . me! Friday, September 12. Calm is trying to settle on us, but failing. We are beginning to feel settled in our new town. So we have decided to abandon that purchase, and go instead for a rented flat. So he is now rushing around with his new wife trying to find a flat they like, and we also need to sort references and everything like that. It's not really long ...
