Meridian is an exploration of central geographical locations within Great Britain, implying free liberal methods of inquiry such as the dérive; a term often used within psychogeography to represent an individuals unplanned journey around an environment in which they are subconsciously directed by the aesthetics of the land. There's No Herons Today. There's No Herons Today. The work counters the impressions of areas such as Marston Green, widely considered an area of deprivation and deterioration but one with many hidden beauties; in spaces such as Hatchford Brook, isolating an 18-hole golf course between the airport and its flowing water. I consider these photographs to be a truthful representation of this periphery, displaying how the land is viewed, used and mediated. Aircraft taking off over Hatchford Brook.

There's No Herons Today. Tom Illsley (b.1994) is a British photographer based in Brighton. He is a documentary landscape photographer predominantly working with geographical themes. Illsley graduated from the BA (Hons) Photography course at Nottingham Trent University in 2015. His final year project Meridian. Received the Genesis Imaging Bursary award.
