http://tomjconley.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Big P Political Economy. Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Australia's China Dependence and Whether India Could be the Next Big Thing. No country will ever replace China at number one in economic importance to Australia". So says Geoff Raby. Whatever the future possibilities, China's growth hitherto has. Benefitted Australia significantly. As the chart below shows much better to have been China dependent since 2007 than dependent on 'growth' in Europe or the United States. Economy in the world. This is mai...

Big P Political Economy. Thursday, March 20, 2014. Public Debt in Australia 1853-2013. The following graph from a recent RBA article. Puts the whole recent obsession with public debt in Australia into perspective. As Peter Lindert points out in his authoritative two volume study on social spending and economic growth since the eighteenth century: Growing Public: Social Spending and Economic Growth since the Eighteenth Century. Ibid, pp.17-18. For a primer on public debt. Links to this post.
Big P Political Economy: December 2014
http://tomjconley.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Big P Political Economy. Monday, December 8, 2014. Where will goods (merchandise) trade go in the next 20-30 years? Will there be a revitalisation of manufactures trade as the resource intensive stage of development in China slows and as increased supply of resources leads to a period of lower prices? Or will the continuing rise of developing countries maintain an intensive trade in resources? Measuring trade on a value-added basis indicates that "almost 30 per cent of total trade consists of re-exports ...

Big P Political Economy. Monday, August 31, 2015. Links to this post. Friday, August 21, 2015. The Coalition's Communist Sympathies. Joe Hockey has a profound faith in the communist leadership of China. He, together with many other economic liberals, believe that Chinese policy-makers can smoothly transition the economy away from an investment-led model to a consumption driven one. The irony of this position, however, seems lost on our policy elite. Hockey. Is a true believer:. Of state-owned enterprises...

Big P Political Economy. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Australians Want a Change in Energy Policies. Tony Abbott has argued that “Coal is good for humanity, coal is good for prosperity, coal is an essential part of our economic future, here in Australia, and right around the world.” It seems, however, that a growing majority of Australians disagree with him. The one saving grace may be that opinion polls such as those below will eventually force change within the Coalition. The Abbott government remains wedded...

Words, not werds: October 2011
http://musingsaboutnothingmuch.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Words, not werds. Thursday, October 6, 2011. I am b ro k. Who ever said sticks and stones break bones but words can never hurt you didn't. My skin is still there. But the bones inside are crumbling from the lashes. That scream off your tongue as your face. The little piles the bones form. On the floor when you leave. I wonder about the five second rule. And then realise that. They will never be the same anyway. Scraping the pieces together in some kind of fashion. Stifle my agony so. Some are always left.

Words, not werds: What do you mean 'whateva' isn't a style?
http://musingsaboutnothingmuch.blogspot.com/2011/01/what-do-you-mean-whateva-isnt-style.html
Words, not werds. Monday, January 3, 2011. What do you mean 'whateva' isn't a style? My husband recently bought me an appointment with a personal stylist for our 19th wedding anniversary. It was a great gift, but for those of you who know me, my 'style' is 'whateva': whateva I can grab out of the laundry basket (clean or dirty) that requires the least ironing, and 'whateva' I can find that means I don't have to wear that most torturous of fashion constructions - the bra. Dear Personal Stylist,. Let you k...

Words, not werds: Is it just me?
http://musingsaboutnothingmuch.blogspot.com/2010/08/is-it-just-me.html
Words, not werds. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Is it just me? I was going through iphoto to look for a profile picture for the blog and realised that, even though there are hundreds of photos of my children, my husband, our camp sites, our cars, our boat, our extended families and random animals, there are hardly any photos of me. And, the few that exist normally consist of me pulling all kinds of ridiculous faces. I got to wondering (out of idle curiosity only) what photos would be put up of me at a funeral.

Deflating the housing bubble: A critical look at the Australian economy from afar. Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Iron ore and Australian house prices. In my previous post. We started to examine the million dollar question for Australia's economy today. How long will China's rapid growth and the commodity price boom last? The chart below from Global Mining Investments. Illustrates the economics of this very well. This is the cost curve for various iron ore producers around the world. I'm focusing o...Says ...

Words, not werds: A thank you letter to my invisible friend
http://musingsaboutnothingmuch.blogspot.com/2010/09/thank-you-letter-to-my-invisible-friend.html
Words, not werds. Friday, September 10, 2010. A thank you letter to my invisible friend. Dear Murphy, my invisible friend. You were there with me when my now husband asked me to marry him, by the pond outside our house at sunset amongst the hum of the insects and the croaking of the frogs, but you weren't really on top of your game that day, were you? You remember now. Thanks for that. You have been a naughty boy and a dream-snatcher . and I want you to kick you in your invisible nuts until your vans...

http://musingsaboutnothingmuch.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Words, not werds. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. In one of my former reincarnations I was a police officer. People look at me now - blubbering at ads on the telly (the fact that I use the word 'telly'), my forgetfulness, that I can't string a sentence together in front of anyone in any kind of authority, and probably my less than optimal body shape (what eva! And can't believe that at one stage I got in punch-ups, rescued people, told off truckies and helped at autopsies. Were a police officer? I am sure I...

Words, not werds. Sunday, March 27, 2011. It's been a while. I could tell you why, assail you with the minute of the issues that have been keeping me from your seductive embrace, but not too many words are needed to show you that I haven't had time to procrastinate. Suffice to say that I have preferred curls over words. And then there is this;. I am slowly coming to grips with the irony. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Lady In France. Words, not werds. Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Nightwhore at the diner - perspective 3. This is perspective three of a four-part story. Parts one and two are below. The light emanating from the diner wasn't exactly inviting but it held the promise of a hot coffee. Without much thought he found himself walking in. Neither the waiter's startled surprise nor the clatter of milkshake cups as they bounced across the floor registered on his radar. He slouched onto the diner's stool, his back to the o...His voice...
