About - Tom Sharrad. I’m Tom Sharrad, a writer, historian, and Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society based in London. I gained a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Southampton in 2008 and a Master of Studies in Global and Imperial History from Lincoln College, Oxford in 2014. I’m currently working on a PhD thesis at University College London alongside a biography of the nineteenth century traveller, orientalist and diplomat Edward Backhouse Eastwick. Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society.
