On the Northwest Coast there are traditionally three types of bowls: canoe shaped, round, and zoomorphic (representing animal forms) with a hollowed out area for the bowl. They were and are generally carved from harder wood such as alder, birch, or maple. The exception to this are the large feast bowls. Which are carved from red cedar and given the shape of wolves, killer whales, seals, or giant Dzonaqua (old woman of the woods) which can be as much as fifteen feet in length, or more. Almost got a DSQ because I was mistaken for one the boats that was over the line at the start. David turned back but Josh didn't and as I'd started dead astern of the two I'd slipped into their lee. So the start boat wasn't sure if it was Josh or me over the line. Luckily, they DSQ'd neither. Trying not to Stress.
