I am full time woodturner based in Ballinora, Waterfall, Co. Cork. I make bowls, lamps, hollow forms and boxes from Irish grown woods, which I harvest and season myself. I also make buttons, cake stands and other wooden object. I make multi-purpose boards from kitchen worktop off-cuts. They can be used for chopping food or presenting and serving cheese, tapas, roast meats and pizza. I use oak, ash, elm, sycamore, beech, apple, cherry, sweet chestnut, yew and other woods. Bowls can be refinished if needed...

Ash is a native Irish tree. Its coarse grained, tough wood is strong and elastic and used for making hurleys, oars, tool handles and furniture. The Ash is called the World tree in Norse legends, its tall stem holding up the heavens, its deep roots in Hades, and the earth at its centre. The Beech is a majestic tree which grows to over 100 ft, and can live for 150 years. Beech tablets were used for writing, and beech is connected with ancient wisdom and learning. Oakwood is strong and durable with a silver...

Sunday 31 January 2010. We were set a challenge to create a "SNOW" piece using pale blues, definitely appropriate for January given the amount of snow we had. I decided to use a photo I took and get out my fabrics for a play. The finished piece is mounted on a 40 x 50 cm painted canvas. Wednesday 20 January 2010. Carol and Penny both had birthdays recently, and as they are best friends I wanted to keep their cards similar ;-) Can't have them fighting over them now! Monday 11 January 2010.

I have a few things on my mind right now, Methuselah Grove because I just released a new episode of Beautiful Places In HD of Methuselah Grove, the movie “Avatar” which I saw about a week ago, and the Sea Shepherds out in the Antarctic waters trying to stop the Japanese whalers. Roll across the wild places destroying everything in its path. G to increase my monthly donation. Here’s the Methuselah Grove episode:.
