The highway department‘s major responsibility is the maintenance of 69 miles of town road, which includes 27 miles of unpaved roads. The highway department is responsible for snow plowing, sanding, salting, paving, grading, bridgework, drainage issues, sign issues and other road maintenance. The responsibility of the Water District maintenance, which serves the area in the hamlet of Claverack, at the intersection of 9H/23/23B, is also handled by some of the highway department staff.
