An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Monday, June 30, 2014. Temperatures in the 80's. Only one layer of clothing needed. If forecasts are to be believed (and the naive me thinks that maybe they are, you know, just this once), it would seem that summer is finally here. It's only a week or so early. Or this could be the fake-out for every one's July 4th picnic plans. Psyche! Well, how far south did the Vikings go a-raiding? Posted by brider (aka David).

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Monday, February 23, 2015. Sometimes it's good to throw something new into the training regimen. Even when it's not planned. Today is a good example. Or maybe a bad example. Or. well, you decide. I missed an awesome riding day yesterday due to getting the "new" car (see Haulin'. Post) So I made sure to get out today, even if it was just for the hour-plus standard lunchtime loop. Starting out again, I was pushing my t...

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Thursday, August 21, 2014. Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug. Dire Straits sang that back in 1991 (from the song The Bug, on the On Every Street CD). Yep, some days you wear the cape, some days it wraps around you and becomes a burden. Some days You're the hero, some days the damsel in distress. Some days you've got it, some days it's got you. There are times when I tell myself that I'll just ...

brider's place: Four Days, Three Rides

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Monday, May 4, 2015. Four Days, Three Rides. My wife was joking when she said that when she and the little one go out of town, I get a vacation. A little hike-a-bike got me back on the road and back towards home. A few more short hills and I was back at the start with 3.5 hours in the saddle. Sunday was set as a dry run (and it was dry, thankfully) for the Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride. An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Wednesday, January 21, 2015. In the bike world, there's just something very sublime about the first ride on a new bike. Buying a complete bike from a shop, likely it's been test-ridden by some one else a time or two, and maybe even yourself before your first full suit-up and trip down the road. But it's still something special, kind of like new-car-smell. Is the shifting crisp, the braking secure and responsive?

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Friday, November 21, 2014. The month of November begins in earnest the winter struggle of busy-ness, getting things accomplished, holidays, demands on time, and trying to stay sane and in some kind of physical shape (other than round). A funny thing happened on the way. I cried a little. And I set it aside to start over. I figured I could finish it up at some point as a display-only model. Now, if this were for a pay...

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Riding on the road. This is NOT a post about road riding, though the title may imply that. Instead, it's about riding while on vacation, on the road, so to speak. Anyway. I was wanting to find some folks on Velocipede Salon to ride with while I was there this past weekend. While that didn't pan out (and is kind of a relief, as my schedule degraded quickly leaving me only one oppor...On on...

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Some days it's nice to just get out and enjoy the silence and solitude. Today was one of those days, getting out on my mountain bike on a beautiful but cold day on some new terrain. All indications were that it would be okay, but that given military exercises were often done on this land, I'd have to pay attention to any signs warning of unexploded ordnance. Sometimes you run into unexpect...

An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Thursday, April 23, 2015. The Trek recall - really? I mean, REALLY? I'm having a really difficult time putting my feelings into words regarding the Trek quick-release recall. That was announced on Monday. At least words that won't offend some people. So I guess I'll just say "whatever" and go with it. Those tabs were the first thing to go on EVERY fork or bike I bought for myself (with the exception of bikes with fro...

brider's place: Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride -- bigger and better in 2015
http://www.bridersplace.com/2015/05/elbe-multi-strada-loop-ride-bigger-and.html
An admitted shoe geek waxes philosophical about running, triathlon, and life in general. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride - bigger and better in 2015. The humor wasn't lost on me - last year's Elbe Multi-Strada Loop Ride. Was done on the first weekend of May, and we got rained on for almost the entire ride. So I decided to move the date out two weeks this time around, figuring it would at least increase the chances of good weather. I kept watching the forecast as ride day approached,.
