http://jennifer-raisinghales.blogspot.com/2014/06/julias-13th-birthday.html
Wednesday, June 4, 2014. Well, it finally happened.both of my kids are officially teenagers now. Julia turned 13 in February. Since she opted to not sell Girl Scout cookies this year, she was able to have her party relatively near her actual birthday, which hasn't happened in years. We had a dinner party with Grandma and Grandpa the weekend before her birthday:. She had so many other activities. They also had pizza, ice cream, and watched a movie. It was a long event, but everyone had a good time. Your k...

Raising Hales: November 2013
http://jennifer-raisinghales.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 14, 2013. At the very end of summer. At the very last possible moment. After the parent meeting had already occurred. My son (yes, my never-before-had-an-athletic-bone-in-his-body child) decided that he would join the Cross Country team. I was so unnerved by the idea. What? MY kid, choose. without coercion.on purpose to run! Crazy talk. At my house, running is only ever employed for the following reasons (and only for short distances):. These pictures are from another race at Round Lak...

Raising Hales: October 2013

Sunday, October 27, 2013. He spent his first couple of days learning to dive in a pool. For his first two open-water dives we drove about an hour north to Lake Merwin. Julia brought a friend to play in the lake while Jourdan and his instructor Rich dove into the murky waters. Here he is in all his gear, after his first open-water dive:. The diving location of choice is known as "Octopus Hole". For this dive, he required a little more gear due to the frigid water.even in the summer. His instructor has min...

Raising Hales: September 2013

Monday, September 30, 2013. Jourdan's scout troop took a 54 mile backpacking trek on a portion Mt. Hood's Pacific Crest Trail for their High Adventure from July 23-27th. (Yes, I know I'm behind! The trip took 5 days. The leaders all commented on the attitude of the boys by saying that although the boys had heavy packs, blisters, and were often over-heating, not one of them complained during the hike. This is a great group of boys. This is Jourdan taking a plunge in Burnt Lake:. How's this for a campsite?

Raising Hales: After-School Sports - Round 3
http://jennifer-raisinghales.blogspot.com/2014/05/after-school-sports-round-3.html
Wednesday, May 28, 2014. After-School Sports - Round 3. I wasn't quite prepared for the kids to participate in so many after-school sports teams this year. While Julia participated in track in elementary school (which only lasted 4-5 weeks), neither of the kids has ever shown much interest in athletics until very recently. I'm not sure I understand what the "face" is about in the picture above, but it was really fun to watch her play with so much confidence. I love that shes having a great time.

Sunday, September 28, 2014. Grand Floral Parade 2014. When Jourdan volunteered, we asked the lady in charge of volunteers if he could possibly be somewhere in the front half of the parade because he had a vocal recital in the afternoon. (If he were to end up in the back part of the parade, there was a chance he would miss his recital.) She said she would do her best to accommodate him (and his friend). So, as the parade started, we watched anxiously (knowing Julia planned to run out into the parade and s...

Raising Hales: December 2013

Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Bad Sport, Good Sport. Yes, she joined the volleyball team (she even made the "A" team despite only playing 4-5 times before try-outs). And, yes, I realize that I am partial to the sport. It does, however have it's advantages: it's easy to watch, it's indoors, there's no mud, I understand the rules, much less muddy laundry, and I know almost all the players on the team. Before every game.the girls "assume the position" below:. Julia's up to serve:. Monday, December 16, 2013.

Raising Hales: July 2014

Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Below is the "Save A Soul Mission" marching band. Jourdan is the 4th from the left. This is, perhaps, the funniest part of the show.well, at least, the most awkward moment for Jourdan. His character Calvin "the Cat" is supposed to hit on Adelaide (the lead). This could not be more out of character for Jourdan. In fact, he was taking flirting lessons on the bus during the choir tour in preparation for this scene. Too bad it's a little blurry. Sit Down, You're Rockin' the Boat".

Monday, June 10, 2013. Farewell Concert with "Jersey Boys". Disclaimer: I realize that this is a lot of posts about concerts and performances. I also realize that I have very few followers/readers, so this is really a record to preserve these memories for our family - feel free to skip through to whatever is interesting to you. This is hopefully what we'll be hearing a lot of next year with the new a cappella group. Although, they'll be singing without Mason as the lead. Jourdan's head can be see...I'll ...
