An oxymoronic life of adventure. No welcome for Matthew. Filed under “things I can’t do anything about but can’t stop worrying about anyway”: hurricane Matthew, the most severe hurricane to threaten Jamaica in half a decade. Yesterday Matthew was a class 5 (out of 5). Today it has been downgraded to class 4. That’s still enough wind and water to do severe damage to both the natural environment and human constructions. Sunday, October 26, 2014. I took myself on a little get-away this weekend with the intention to clear my head and heart a little. And while I did accomplish that to some degree, it was definitely not with the grace for myself and others that I would have liked. I had fun. I pushed myself. I dove in fully (actually fell backwards into the water. Fully). I also hid out and watched atrocious TV in my hotel room, ate chips for supper and texted Freckles, Shiney and Diva Moe - my trifecta of saving graces.

By Theresa Anne Fowler. I had to keep reminding myself that this book was a novel - a well-researched novel no doubt, but still a novel. It is not a biography. The author is clear on that. It's right there in the subtitle. And yet, Z. Bits of the Fitzgerald's lives made it, apparently, into The Great Gatsby. Make it into Z.

An oxymoronic life of adventure. Life, like ginger beer, should be ‘sweetened to taste’. Like many oral-tradition style recipes, the ones I found for ginger beer were short on measurements and long on story. The consistencies were in the looseness of the instructions and the simplicity of ingredients. The phrase that makes me smile though is ‘sweeten to taste.’. How often do we think we want life to be sweet and smooth like honey only to find a spoonful of it tooth-ache inducing? 1 large ginger root.
