thenotsosecretdiary : Sunday links #12

1 Flopsy, Mopsy, Cottontail and Peter.and 36 others. Ibis Hotels broke the cardinal rule of not working with animals to bring 40 adorable bunnies together. To test out the comfort of the 'Sweet Bed'. Music from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, courtesy of a melodic Richard Hawley - this is an ad that you just can't help but coo over. Tweet about it, I've been addicted to Duolingo. 3 Keep on the grass. 4 Dumb Ways To Die. You've probably seen this railway-safety ad. A ridiculously catchy riff, harking back to the...

thenotsosecretdiary : The Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare's Globe
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2014/09/the-comedy-of-errors-shakespeares-globe.html
The Comedy of Errors, Shakespeare's Globe. It finally rolled around. Having booked it months in advance, when the tickets get released at the beginning of the season, Mum and I were off to see our second play at The Globe in as many years having fallen in love with A Midsummer's Night's Dream. One of Shakespeare's earliest, The Comedy of Errors. Is one of his shortest and most humorous plays. What's it about? No thanks. But right from the off of this play, I was hooked. The Comedy of Errors.

thenotsosecretdiary : Sushi Samba
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2013/10/sushi-samba.html
I have a thing for high places. If there's a bar or restaurant in a high place, you can bet I'll probably be sold on it. For the work Christmas party last year, we went to Paramount. 33 floors above London in the Centrepoint tower. More recently, I've been frequenting the Oxo Tower Bar. And keeping a weather eye on the new openings. It's only natural, therefore, that Heron Tower's two high-above offerings of Duck and Waffle. Have been on my list ever since they opened. We finished our wine out on the ter...

thenotsosecretdiary : Grill Market, Holborn
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2014/04/grill-market-holborn.html
Grill Market, Holborn. Hold it right there, I think I've found one of the best places for lunch on the go in London. But let's take it back a step. We've been pretty spoilt working in Soho when it comes to places to grab lunch. For the lazy there was Pret, for the healthier minded there was Hummus Bros. Sushi lovers? Pho Best sandwiches made to order? Le Cafe Buen Guesto (my best kept secret that I was heartbroken to leave behind). Came into our lives. Next to Banh Mi Bay. And you know what's best of all...

thenotsosecretdiary : Madison, One New Change
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2013/08/madison-one-new-change.html
Madison, One New Change. Hold on, guys, I think we're onto a winner here. On Monday night, I meandered through St Paul's new precinct One New Change. Took the lift to the top floor and was greeted by the most amazing view of the Cathedral (and beyond) courtesy of Madison. A quiet little haven above the hustle and bustle of the streets and shopping below, the roof terrace opens out on to a wide area flanked by the cocktail bar on one side and the restaurant on the other. Madison gets four and a half.

thenotsosecretdiary : Almeida and Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2014/01/almeida-and-matthew-bournes-swan-lake.html
Almeida and Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. Despite appearances, I do do other things than spend a seemingly inordinate amount of time in restaurants. I just don't always get round to writing about them. But I couldn't not blog about one of the best Saturdays I've ever had. For Christmas, I bought my mum and I tickets to see Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake. If you haven't heard of it - where've you been hiding? But before we excitedly made our way down to Sadler's Wells, we found time for lunch at Almeida. To kee...

thenotsosecretdiary : Cats
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2015/02/cats.html
Good things come to those who wait, right? Cover to cover, as well as the programme of the poems-brought-to-the-stage-production Cats. That I'd swiped from the bookshelf. Left the West End back in 2001 and my dreams of meeting magical Mr Mistoffelees were shattered until S bought me tickets to see the reboot for Christmas. Almost two months later, the time had finally arrived and I was off to The Jellicle Ball. I had goosebumps through Memory. And overheard the granddaughter ask whether the cats were real.

thenotsosecretdiary : Midweek
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2013/07/midweek.html
Working in the heart of Soho is practically idyllic. A stone's throw away from some great lunch spots (Cafe El Buen Gusto, you're my favourite), some great bars (too many to choose from) and some amazing restaurants (also too many to choose from), you're also so close to Oxford Street it hurts. Even this morning I discovered that they're opening an Office. On Kingly Street (previous write-up here. We caught up on the missed months, including his trip to Sicily and checking out the Godfather haunts, my pl...

thenotsosecretdiary : 'Lord, what fools these mortals be!'
http://www.thenotsosecretdiary.com/2013/06/lord-what-fools-these-mortals-be.html
Lord, what fools these mortals be! Every month, we try to fit in a mother-daughter day (usually in London) - sometimes it goes to plan and we head to the National Portrait Gallery or go for a wander round Covent Garden, other times (once) I end up inexplicably crippled and our day has to be cut short. Friday was not only the best mother-daughter days so far but also one of the best days so far full stop. Yes, again - my review here. After that came the main event - A Midsummer Night's Dream at The Globe.
