This week the screaming and defiance spilled over to her instructors when things didn't go her own way. She practically brought an elderly aid to tears and caused her homeroom teacher to yell at a child for the first time in her career. Tween: It was great! How was your day? Me: Oh, my day was fine. I went to the gym. So, great, huh? Tween: Yeah. What's wrong Mom. You seem, well, disturbed. Get it, Mom?

I have that Mom-guilt at times because I don't often take her seriously and feel I should. When we got home, she took off her basketball sneakers, and as kids are prone to do (I think I used to do this, too) she put one to her face and took a big wiff:. Tween: Hey, Mom. You know what my sneakers smell like? Get it, Mom?
