Saturday, November 29, 2014. There are the go-to "facts are facts," "thugs reap what they sow," "how is rioting fixing this? Comments. But I'm wondering, will anything change if we continue to go to our go-to answers? Obviously there is a lot of unrest and injustice felt given the reaction. Is it a proper or well-thought out reaction? No - but when emotions are raw and the injustice is centurys-long should we expect anything less? Normally work, and the unique history of the prosecutor. How do we listen?

>>juxtapositions<<: On the river
http://justsupposeajuxtapose.blogspot.com/2015/06/on-river.html
Monday, June 15, 2015. I had a great weekend with plenty of cooling off in bodies of water. That's a beautiful thing during the hot Georgia summers we experience here. The weekend started with an awesome kayak trip down a river in North Georgia with good friends. And although I had an incredible time, I lost something valuable, and was reminded of some important lessons. Save the unopened contraband beer bottle I had snuck onto my boat to enjoy later despite the warnings that we should not bring them....

Friday, September 05, 2014. On what Victoria Osteen said. There has been a lot of hub-bub and hoop-lah as of late because of what Victoria Osteen said. But my main question is:. Seriously. We've been listening to these folks for years. Is this that surprising? Uncle Fluffy (as one of my friends used to call him) has a book named "Every Day a Friday: How to Be Happier 7 Days a Week." He (and I suppose his wife) have been saying this kinda crap. So, why is it a big deal? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I like ...

Saturday, August 08, 2015. This summer I have watched and re-watched some excellent TV shows and movies. One that I started back in the winter was True Detective. 8220;Didn’t you tell me one time, dinner once, maybe, about how you used to . you used to make up stories about the stars? 8220;Yeah, that was in Alaska, under the night skies.”. 8220;Yeah, you used to lay there and look up, at the stars? 8220;And look up at the stars and make up stories. Like what? 8220;What’s that? 8220;You’re looking a...

Monday, September 30, 2013. What has Facebook done to us? All of this is making me seriously consider getting off of facebook.and I have not even mentioned the time suck that it can be. Sunday, September 08, 2013. A Wrinkle in Time. I recently read the book, A Wrinkle in Time. Can't you see what's going to happen? Oh, not in this kind of thing.' Mrs Whatsit sounded surprised at his question. 'If we knew ahead of time what was going to happen we'd be- we'd be like the people on Camazotz, with no l...There...

Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Just read this article. And it was convicting, especially this quote:. The perfect customer is dissatisfied but hopeful, uninterested in serious personal development, highly habituated to the television, working full-time, earning a fair amount, indulging during their free time, and somehow just getting by.". Ouch - hits a little too close to home. I know I have written about it before on here. I am reading a great book now, by James KA Smith called Desiring the Kingdom.

Sunday, July 26, 2015. I am often struck by the power of words. To heal, to hurt, to lift up, mobilize, empower. Ideas travel through them. They are the constructs of internal worlds, psyches, fantasies. Imaginations are empowered by them, and new possibilities embedded within them. Yes - language speaks, and when accompanied with a booming, crisp voice it can communicate so much and strengthen one to their core. His Word never fails. Friday, July 10, 2015. Inside Out and the Human Heart. But the main me...

Monday, January 26, 2015. Reading and Writing Day. Doing that today. Taking some time away from work to think, write, read and stay warm inside. Good to do every once in awhile, and I'm making a point to be intentional with that this year. Here's a quote I came across reading a blog a new friend shared with me. Thought it summed up my affections for the power of Story very well. From Dennis Haack's Ransom Theology review of House of Cards. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Tuesday, October 29, 2013. Are Cellphones bad for children? I heard something yesterday on the radio, that most two-year-olds know how to use tablets and smart phones.so they are going to start marketing to sell to even younger kids. Just what we need. Tuesday, October 22, 2013. The question I do not think this quote addresses is the why - why do we indulge ourselves into oblivion? What do you think? Have you heard of Muggeridge before? Think he is right with this quote? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Does Failure mean God's not in it? I'm wrestling with this now, because I'm on the cusp of attempting something somewhat great - launching something new in my life. Although I believe God is in it, the possibility of it failing haunts me. If it fails, does that mean God was not in it? If so, why not - and why would he lead me to try it as I believe that he has? One thing we learned there was that fell trees are a crucial part part of the redwood ecosystem. The ground cannot ...
