Texas Coastal Bend

Our home is where we park it. Page last modified 1/28/2008. Aransas National Wildlife Refuge has very interesting birds. The wild turkey (above right) and spoon billed herons (right) are good, but the star is the Whooping Crane, quite rare and the largest bird in North America. Whooping Cranes (below) are seen only at a great distance or via boat tours. No human guest may enter the whooping cranes habitat. Police car seen in Rockport. Blue Heron in winter plumage at Indian Point north of Corpus Christi.

Our home is where we park it. Page last modified 1/28/2008. The Traveling Morgans have been to one of the more isolated areas, Big Bend National Park and the nearby Big Bend Ranch State Park. Big Bend National Park is 300 road miles from the nearest Super Wal-Mart (El Paso). The area has mountains and deserts and a ribbon oasis called the Rio Grande. The remaining pictures give a glimpse of the scenic beauty.

South Texas

South Texas is flatter than the cornfields of Indiana. This is not a feature that translates well into scenic photographs. The Rio Grande Valley is not really a valley. It is the destination of many snowbirds. We found the area too windy and developed for our tastes. In spite of this. there are many sections of the Rio Grande with good bird viewing, and South Padre Island has many remote areas away from the over developed community of South Padre. They are something to be experienced by staying in them or walking through them. It is a rare photograph that can convey the feeling of inner peace. One of the inhabitants of the area near Houston is a tree frog. This frog lived on our front window under the partially opened stone guard. His size was about 1.5 inches. Are all visible from Seawolf Park.
