Sunday, May 29, 2011. Family, Friends and Communism. May has just been a super busy month. This picture was taken at the school for the yearbook. Graduation hasn't happened yet. Doesn't like her picture taken but she likes to take pictures of me. At first I'm not aware of it and then I get embarrassed and self-conscious. Likes to do things. She always wants to help me and she's actually a very good helper. Here she's the pusher for the merry-go-round thingy . There were shortages of everything imaginable.

Tuesday, January 17, 2012. Mad King Ludwig of Bavaria. Last June for our anniversary Eric and I took a short trip to visit all of the castles of Mad King Ludwig. The most famous one is Neuschwanstein Castle, the one the Disney castle is modelled on. We didn't go there this time because we go there any time anyone comes to visit. Here's the story of Mad King Ludwig and his castles. Ludwig was one of the last kings in Bavaria, living from 1845 to 1886. He was actually Ludwig the II. Sunday, January 8, 2012.

Friday, September 24, 2010. Trip to Italy Part 4a: Rome, The Vatican Museums. Wow, Rome was amazing! But my information had been wrong. You can go into St. Peters any day (unless the Pope has closed it) and it's free. So we did get to go in another day. Maybe you can't tell in this picture but the courtyard in front of the intrance is large and it was packed with people. In addition, the ticket buying line extended forever around the outside walls. Tuesday, October 11, 2011. More Brushes with the Polizei. Okay, I don't know what's happened to me since I moved to Germany. I have had more incidents driving in the two years we've been here than ever in my life. I blame it on narrow streets, cars parked on both sides of the streets and big trucks that just stop and put on their blinkers. I don't think I'll go into a parking garage again! I so miss wide streets and large parking lots! Those are metal muzzles on those poor horses. Would have been so mad!

Sunday, January 8, 2012. St Martin, School Busses and the Church Tax. After school I was walking back to my car and took these pictures. The first few are of my big, orange van in the parking lot. There are so few cars that are not black or gray or silver or white that my van always stands out in a crowd. So if, when a person files their tax return, they owe 10,000 euros in taxes, 800.00 euros will be what they owe for church tax. The money is collected by the government and then given to the chu...I get...

Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Leipzig and 2 Churches. I don't know what a Cantor is but I do know from the museum that we went to that Bach's duties included playing the organ for all the regular and special services. Sometimes he played his music, sometimes other people's music. Sometimes, on special occasions, he played the organ for 3 hours! For some reason, however, the citizens of Leipzig chose the other church, St. Nicholas's church, to stage their peaceful demonstrations in the fall of 1989.
