Hull - Aluminium and Techniques. Fit out - André Rameau. 6 knots average under sail (excluding upwind). 55 knots motoring (range 1100 miles). 12 Volt 600 amp hour system charged from alternator, solar and wind generator. Aluminium hull and deck constructed twelve, seven and 4.5mm AG4MC plate insulated with 2 closed cell foam on hull down to waterline. Deck insulated with 2 closed cell foam . Retractable swing keel operated from cockpit by hand winch. 12 months supply of food for 2 crew.

In 2008 Tyhina will journey north to Greenland where she will cross the arctic circle and head into Canadian waters in an attempt to navigate the Northwest Passage. This area is frozen for the better part of the year and thaws for a few weeks during the brief arctic summer at which time navigation is possible. The Northwest passage sees few vessels passing through its waters. Since the first transit by Roald Amundsen in 1906 just over 100 vessels have made the passage.

Maeva is French and grew up in New Caledonia, a small South Pacific archipelago. The only girl in a family of 3 children, she grew up camping on deserted islands, fishing off the reef, scuba-diving and dreaming of circumnavigating the world. While pursuing an international career in Finance, she kept true to her roots, sailing across the Atlantic at 20, participating in wreck-searching expeditions or helping build the New Caledonian Maritime Museum.
