The brief to the designer stipulated that the extension must not detract from the visual appearance of the front elevation of the existing cottage. Wednesday, 12 May 2010. The Proof of the Plumbing is in the Heating. A new feature appeared on the local skyline recently - a shiny new flue. In the attic, the flue winds its way upwards. From the woodburner in the lounge (it's a Hunter Herald 8 with wraparound boiler). Meanwhile, the bathroom has been elevated to the status of "almost finished". Pipes need to be boxed in. Mirror to be connected. Matching towels to be bought and displayed (not used) on the rail. And shower cabinet and plinth to be fitted.

Monday, 21 September 2009. A Great Leap Forward. With the trusses in place and months of trying to visualise the rooms sizes at an end, I can now breathe a sigh of relief. The extra £300 or so for the attic trusses has been rewarded with a sizeable storage area upstairs and enough headroom for the 400-litre thermal store. Friday, 28 August 2009. Bank holiday weekend and it's set to rain persistently. All the blockwork is covered so that it'll be useable on Tuesday. Mortar and saturated blocks aren't really compatible. There are now two complete walls and four lintels in place. Measurements will be taken on Tuesday for the roof trusses. They should be ready by mid-September. Links to this post.
